    All the #distributed, #federated #webapps in the world don't matter if they're prohibitively hard for people to run (ie #selfhost!).

    That's how most of the world's #email ended up owned by #Google and #Microsoft.

    So it's almost criminal that the leading #FOSS #selfhosting platform @yunohost is only getting €9.63 a week from their #Liberapay.

    We can do better! Let's make it easy for everyone to host #Mastodon, #Peertube, #Wordpress, #Pixelfed etc!

    @aslmx @hay That's the point and it seems so that not #Mastodon is part of the #Fediverse. Instead the #Fediverse is part of #Mastodon for now and the time being. So we are also talking about stop talking to #Friendica, #Hubzilla and others. Being some kind of sarcastic! ;-)

    @hughenknubbel Auch hier von meiner Seite: Das kannst du gerne machen. Daran ändert sich dann aber defakto nur herzlich wenig und schon gar nicht an den gesamtheitlichen, ziemlich schlechten Verhältnissen in Sachen #Datenschutz und #Privatsphäre. Auch hier ein Zitat von #Mastodon nunmehr:

    "Du bist ein Mensch und keine Ware
    Mastodon ist kein kommerzielles Netzwerk. Keine Werbung, kein Abgraben deiner Daten, keine geschlossene Plattform. Es gibt keine Zentrale."

    Unterstelle ich #Pixelfed nunmehr auch nicht, da ja dezentrale Strukturen Ausgangsbasis sein sollen. Aber genau aus dem Grunde habe ich auch auf #Subsonic hingewiesen. Selbiges Projekt begann auch entsprechend motiviert und endete in einem proprietären Einerlei. Und ich bin ein Freund des reziproken Egoismus. In Kürze: Ich versuche für mich Änderungen herbeizuführen, von denen dann auch Andere etwas haben. Denn Altruismus würde mit der aktuellen Maßgabe dieses Gesellschaftssystems zu keinem Ergebnis außer der absoluten Selbstaufgabe führen. Nochmals anders formuliert: Ich bin ein Idealist und stehe dazu auch. Realismus braucht es ebenso, aber derweil wird das mit Verweis auf #Subsonic nicht wirklich weit führen.

    @saxnot Einige Technologien sagen mir durchaus etwas. Aber das war nebenbei bemerkt ein Grund mich vor über einem Jahr gegen #Mastodon zu entscheiden. Allein die Installation und das Abstimmen der Komponenten aufeinander ist je nach Distribution quasi ein ziemlich großer Aufwand. Gerne mache ich mir diesen, aber dazu brauche ich auch mehr Informationen und Kontakte mit den Teilnehmern selbst. Die technische Seite ist das Eine. Aber etwas Anderes die Stimmung und das Miteinander. :)

    Opinion: Mastodon should show image descriptions not only on hover but below the image as well (as done in Tusky e.g.). This would:
    1) Raise general awareness that they exists (it shouldn't be an obscure feature)
    2) Will remind people that they exist
    3) Will increase usability in mouseless scenarios

    @inaktion Da ruft dann die Bequemlichkeit. :D Als wäre Kommunikation rein exklusiv auf ein Medium reduziert und daran gebunden. Klar: Wir kommunizieren auch nun über jeweils ein Medium. Aber #Mastodon und #GNU-social sind hier zwei verschiedene Webapplikationen mit unterschiedlichen wie auch gleichen Ansätzen! Allein da beginnt ein schöner #Gegenpol, etwas Anderes.

    Wobei ich auch ehrlich zugebe: Ich möchte nicht Alles mit einer Brücke ausstatten. Nur was quelloffen und transparent funktioniert ist dahingehend geeignet. Zentrale Quellen wieder anzubinden ist der komplett falsche Weg, weil sie die Angewohnheit haben nur zu binden ohne sich selbst zu öffnen. Und für WhatsApp gibt es so viele Alternativen, nur scheinbar wenig Wille. Offensichtlich ist der Schmerz nicht groß genug. Aber er wird auf die eine oder andere Art kommen!
