    Very cool! @korelstar@github.com submitted a patch to #Nextcloud Notes for setting a default file extension/suffix: https://github.com/nextcloud/notes/pull/223

    The current behavior is to create a .txt file, despite the editor supporting markdown as a use-case. It kinda sucks, because it will rename my files from .md to .txt, unless I name the title of the document the filename (first line should be 'filename.md'). This is a welcome addition!

    And as @ninjafoss said it's important to pay for services or make donations if we want to have our own free and privacy care tools.
    That account it's 8$ a year.

    Anyway you can use an external account (or several ones). I do use

    and I use to recommend it for Spanish speaking people. I'm sure there will be lot of servers in other languages and create an account is too easy.
    You just need to explain that you need to create the account and then choose a client... or more than one.

    You also mention recently that it's easy to register a !nextcloud account at @disroot. And if you already have a disroot.org account, that account it's also a fully featured !xmpp account, so no need to register a new one.

    I can't find it so difficult, and "whatsapp people" that use Conversations have no problem at all.

    I ended up installing #PassMan on #NextCloud. It works fairly well. The Firefox addon is a bit wonky, but being a bit wonky means it is less wonky than #LastPass. It generally works for my needs, though occasionally I find I have to refresh a page once or twice for it to find login forms.

    Escaping Google's gravity well: personal to-do list

    I can't find who shared the Google alternatives page of RestorePrivacy.com https://restoreprivacy.com/google-alternatives/ with me but this is the path I intend to take forward.

    I already:
    • deleted my Analytics and AdWords accounts.
    • switched to https://www.qwant.com for personal search.
    • replaced Chrome with https://vivaldi.com based on Chromium without the Google wrapper.
    • set up a personal https://nextcloud.com/ instance.
    I still have to:
    • Move my documents to NextCloud although the web editing tools are lacking.
    • Open an email/calendar account with a different provider (ProtonMail, MailFence?).
    • Delete my Google account entirely.
