If a company collecting data goes bust, the data often gets packaged and sold. So the question when you sign up for a hot startup is not just if you’re happy sharing your data with them. But also, if you’re happy sharing the data with the company that buys them? The idea that data is an asset—that sometimes it is the only asset left when a startup goes bankrupt—is something that isn’t widely thought about outside the industry. It also may no longer be legal post-#GDPR. #bigdata #privacy

Yeah, I've gotten that myself. According to AP, Google still tracks your location, even if you've turned that setting off.

@resist_berlin asked me why I stopped using #xmpp.

I wanted to make my point publicly that we should focus on net-gen #privacy tools rather than old protocols that have already been lapped in terms of #usability.

I have 248 contacts who have #WhatsApp but only a handful with xmpp.

Yes #omemo and #conversations are a step in the right direction but I would like to see the community focus on applications like #Briar which has features that WhatsApp simple can't compete with.
