He’s here! #GS4 is born.
I don’t have the standard weight and length measurements, as there were complications and his mother will be hospitalized for a few days. I’m glad modern medicine is better than what they had a century ago. The child and his brother would have been motherless without modern medicine.
#sonTwo says the baby is fine.
-
Ordered a bunch of baby stuff. Not expected to arrive before #GS4’s birth.
Also, #sonTwo said the entire household just had a day of vomiting and diarrhea.
-
Called #sonTwo to ask whether they wanted me to order some baby formula. He said they are going to try to avoid using it as long as possible.
He did send me a list, so I’ll try to get this stuff ordered tonight. Maybe it will arrive before the child ( #GS4 ).
We also talked about making sure that #GS3 ( age 2 ) gets personal time with both parents, so he does not feel like the new child is taking away the love and attention he previously got.
-
Also, even though #sonTwo was joking about me funding the equipment he needs, he found a good price, so I committed to sending the money. ... After my travel reimbursements come in.
-
#sonTwo used to swear he was not going to acquire my sense of humor.
Now he informs me of important family events by linking a YouTube video and leaving me to figure out the puzzle.
-
... servers: I gave #sonTwo back the used Dell server he bought for me some years back and added a second one (an HP), because he needed some hands-on for a job he was applying to. #sonOne had offered to send one, but I had already ordered.
Next up, #Daddy_A ... he’s been doing some webdev courses, so I may see if there’s something on Ebay for around $100. (The purchase, if it ever happens, will not be soon. He needs to be sure he’s going in that direction.)
-
I bought #sonTwo an enclosed 8U server rack back in 2019. Enclosed because it would make the servers less vulnerable to babies. #GS3 found a spot where the cables come in and pushes blocks into the rack.
He hasn’t damaged anything, but I’m just amazed at the way he found the one? chink in the armor.
-
#GS3 is watching a #baseball game with #sonTwo. The cycle continues.
-
Speaking of expensive equipment, #sonTwo told me that there’s a sale on a piece of equipment that he’s been wanting for his side gig. Only around $1,000. 😳 Yikes.

Got a call from Kenny, talking about an issue he ran into at work. Fortunately, #sonTwo called, so I dropped Kenny's call. I could see him trying to wrap his head around the issue all night.
Basically, due to cost, $EMPLOYER switched almost everyone to a lower priced license of some software we use. As a consequence, some functions are not available for most users ... and people have to ensure their files are fully compatible with lower license levels. If they fail to do so, the users with lower license level software cannot use the file as intended.
I'd already tried to explain this, but he was describing how it "should" work ... and does if everyone has the higher license level.

#GS3 is trying to build a tower of giant Lego-like blocks on #sonTwo's toes. I don't think I ever would have thought of that.
-
A good 40 minutes of chatting with #GS3 and #sonTwo. He's picking up more words:
apple, basket, jacket -- he showed me all these and said the items name as he did so.
He took a little while to warm up because we haven't talked in a while.
-
Got a few pictures of #GS3 recently.
He found #sonTwo's hat, so naturally, in one photo, he's walking around wearing it.
In another photo, he's eating #yogurt. Much like grandpa, except he still likes strawberry flavor and I don't care for it.
They also got him a little sandbox, so in one photo, he's jumping into the sand, enjoying the challenge of doing something he hasn't done before.

#Daddy_A hasn’t been doing much due to the pain and mobility issues that his back injury causes, but #sonTwo has convinced him to take a couple of online courses toward a potential new career. This is one that he could possibly work from home, too.
I’m going to stop nagging these young men and let them convince each other to do what they need to do. It seems to work a lot better.

#GS3 went back into the snow today. This time, he picked some up, squeezed it and dropped it, then said “cool”.
It isn’t as deep today, and even though it is still cold, it isn’t as cold as it was yesterday.
I told #sonTwo to get a stick and break the icicles that are hanging from the roof, so no one is injured by a piece of falling ice. Though I imagine the roof also has ice on it that could slide off.
-
Told #sonTwo to monitor temperature in #GS3's room and to bring him into their room if it gets too cool in there.
Wind chills expected to reach -5°F to -20°F across #KS, #MO, #IL, lower in #NE and #IA.
-
#sonTwo and #Daddy_A have both been talking to their family doctors and were told to delay receiving the #COVID-19 vaccine until additional data is available from those vaccinated.
I'm not pleased that doctors are telling my boys not to get the vaccines (yet). I do realize that we have no history of mRNA vaccines, and that we only have a year of even knowing about this virus, so no long-term studies showing safety.
But both of them are heavy. One had asthma and a lung infection when he was younger.
-
#sonTwo and #GS3 called to #videochat. The child told me about animals in his book, but the only words I understood were "animals", "cat", "cow", and "dog dog".
Also, Tampa Bay 20, Kansas City 6 at halftime.
-
#sonTwo is taking the younger dog to his in-laws. She's too active (large breed, so she's still growing, even though she's bigger than the other dog) and too chew-happy ... tries to chew on everything, including people.
The in-laws live in a warmer climate and have a larger back yard, so she can spend more time outdoors, chewing to her heart's content.
-
Phone call with #sonTwo.
Entire family has been sick for a few days. He and #GS3 have gotten over it, but my daughter-in-law still has lingering symptoms.
The younger dog is too active and to chew-oriented, so he's going to take her to the in-laws' home. If she calms down when she's older (and the boys are old enough to exercise some authority over her), maybe she can return.
GS3 has discovered Curious George. During their sick time, he watched episode after episode of the show.
GS3 was given a coloring book, but no one knew it also had stickers. He's now put several stickers on the inside of the front door.
I sent him a little hoodie. sonTwo tells me he will let him wear it around the house when temperatures are cool, but not going into a public place.
