I’m expecting him to finish setting up his servers now, so he can relearn the *nix admin stuff that I had him learning during middle school and part of high school. (Half his lifetime ago)
I’m going to talk with #sonOne about us getting a cheap LEB VPS for a year, so that we each can use it for learning projects.

lnxw48a1I was a little worried that #Daddy_A would feel left out because I'm unlikely to be able to send him a #NAS or the server & rack for his birthday. Both #sonOne and #sonTwo got a NAS for their birthdays. During yesterday's videochat with 2nd son, I mentioned it and he said "you won't find out whether he takes it badly until you tell him, but I'm sure he will understand". So last night, I sent a message.
This morning I received a reply: "No worries about the NAS or server ... don't let yourself stress out about that!"

lnxw48a1Today’s discussions: * #sonTwo scrambling to find another job, plus complete some projects around the house (fencing the yard, making a vegetable garden). * #sonOne’s job is very busy recently, so he hasn’t had time for much of anything; #GD1 and #GD2 begin online classes tomorrow. * #Daddy_A was broke when the panic buying started, so he’s having to drive all over town to find food & supplies for the five of them. * Mark (from $EMPLOYER) is working from his #hotel most days, but now thinks he may leave the assignment early and return to #SoCal because his mom is older.
It sounds like a good idea, at first. But if you think about it more deeply, you might not know which ones are just cheap and which ones cannot afford to stay closed for two months.
For example, #sonTwo's $EMPLOYER gave them two paid weeks off, but now the governor of that state wants them to stay closed for eight weeks. There's a chance that the business will not be able to reopen after that long without income. But if you think of things as zero-sum and us versus them, then you'll never think about the impact on the other party.
@clacke I have still never seen any Carmen Sandiego cartoons. I think there was a series of DOS/Win9X games, and I’m sure I bought one for #sonTwo, but that was after I had bought “Math Blaster” and he had played it until he figured out it was just math drills, so I doubt he ever played the CS game.

lnxw48a1Unintentionally guilted #sonTwo ... now that he and his wife are getting their own cellphone plan, he asked whether I could drop the family plan and move to theirs. I told him to put his father-in-law on, so he can videochat with #GS3 "because I know that he'll wait all day for that few minutes with his grandson, just like I do".
Was not meant to make him feel guilty for not being able to have videochats every single day, but I guess he does.

lnxw48a1#GS3, age 1 year, mostly babbles, but he occasionally says things that sound very much like situationally appropriate English sentences. He tossed a ball into a large bowl and said something very similar to "I did it". I told #sonTwo and his wife that he's probably going to be like me. My first "word" was a full sentence.
I think #sonOne is moving one or both of his 20-something sons to their grandmother's apartment in SE Kansas today. I should call the granddaughters also.
#Daddy_A is going to be busy with family tasks today. I may still ask.
