    People talking about video stores reminds me that I never even owned a VCR until 2002. My ex and #sonTwo bought me a VHS player / NTSC TV combo unit and an external DVD player to connect to it.

    @geniusmusing You might say I'm the one that is nuts for buying these used servers when I'm gone so often. But #sonOne got his first one for $99, and before I knew it, I'd found five more for the same price*. I was going to ship one to @amic, but it would have cost more to ship than I paid for it (including shipping) to begin with.

    * #sonTwo bought one for me as a present, expecting me to come pick it up. Instead, he's now set it up in his own 12U rack.

    Meanwhile, #sonTwo now has two old Dell servers and a rack. He’s been told to download a trial of #VMWare ESXi, as that’s what the company uses.

    #sonTwo told me tonight that a co-worker passed away about 10 days after contracting (or finding out he had) some rare disease that mostly affects Blacks. He didn't know what it was called, so I've been trawling through links like https://nu.federati.net/url/251588 [zimeye\.net] trying to find out what it could have been.

    He doesn't think it was contagious.

    I just had about 2 1/2 hours of (separate) videochats with #sonOne and #sonTwo (and #GD1 and #GD2). The little girls are a lot more animated and engaged on video than they are on regular phone calls.

    I already videochat regularly with my 31 year old son (and his family) and my 8 year old granddaughter, so it was great to have her sister and her dad join in.

    All I have to say about #asparagus is this:

    Every time and every way I’ve ever tried to eat asparagus, it always tastes awful. With one exception. #sonTwo cooked some asparagus on the BBQ one time. Whatever he did to it, it was delicious.

    (I’m eating a microwave veggie meal with corn, carrots, asparagus.)

    Started executing my part of the 'midwest assignment maneuver' ... noticed that the last time I was "home" for the holidays was 2014. I did see #sonOne and family during the 2015 and 2017 seasons.
    .
    The goal of this maneuver is to see both #sonOne and #sonTwo this year; my stated reason for ending this assignment is "spend holidays with family".

    Years ago, #sonTwo bought me a used server off #eBay. It got shipped to his home instead of mine, so it's still in the box, waiting for me to pick it up. In anticipation of a role change at work, he wants to set it up and practice. So now I'm ordering HDDs, cables, a UPS, a short rack, etc.

    I like* Chipotle, but I don't think I've eaten at one in 3-5 years.

    I have an old server stored at #sonTwo’s house. He’s about to activate it so he can practice server & network administration. He hasn’t shown a lot of interest in #SysAdmin since he switched to Photography late in high school, so of course I was happy to give him control over it.

    This is interesting. I told #sonOne that I was considering a position with #sonTwo’s employer at almost a 50% pay cut. He replies with an opening at his employer for only a 25% cut.

    They are 2.5 to 3 hours apart, and I want to see #GS3 nearly every day, so we’ll have to see.

    I refrained from telling him about his "no homework" stage (he was a little older by that time; I think 8th or 9th grade) or his brother, #sonTwo, who did his homework but did not turn it in.

    "You did the same thing" is not helpful when he's trying to get his daughter back on track.

    #sonTwo called to tell me his wife’s phone broke. I thought “there goes $500”, but then he told me that they sold their trailer home for a little more than they owed, so they’re paying for the phone.
