#sonTwo also installed #Lubuntu on an IdeaPad with 32GB eMMC, which I had sent when his wife decided to return to college and her prior computer was too old.
I think him seeing me work two jobs and attend school while he grew up is making him into a clone of me.

lnxw48a1#sonTwo still trying to figure out how to install a Linux distro. I didn't find a video for the exact model of Lenovo IdeaPad (the Win10 "notebook/laptop" that is basically just a netbook because of the weak processor, little RAM, and tiny eMMC storage), but the ones I sent should be close. In his defense, the last time he did so, he was probably 15 or 16. He's 32 now.
I think he's probably more confused about getting the Ubuntu ISO onto a flash drive. (I sent a link to something called "Rufus", but told him I've never tried it myself.)
I'm trying mostly to send him video links, so he sees the entire process. If it wasn't for the COVID-19 outbreak, I'd tell him to take his computer

lnxw48a1It feels so cool talking to #sonTwo about things like binary search trees and web site scraping. For the past fifteen years, he's been pretty uninterested in such topics. But on the other hand, I've learned things about theater performances, concerts, and photography that I would never have discovered on my own.
I'm going to have to just point him to YouTube videos, as it isn't really possible to give him the reassurance via telephone and chat that he can somehow remember a process he hasn't used in half his lifetime.
@clacke In California, publicly-owned colleges and universities cannot charge tuition by law, so instead they charge "enrollment fees".
The community college fees are pretty reasonable. In #sonTwo's case, the school district picked up his enrollment fees, so I just had to pay for books and lab fees.
California State University's fees are probably in the lower half of costs at state-owned institutions, but depending on a family's resources and financial aid eligibility, it may still be out of reach without student loans. https://www2.calstate.edu/attend/paying-for-college

lnxw48a1$CELLULAR_CARRIER has one of the worst web sites for getting anything done. Not that their call-in operators are exactly great either, but I think I successfully removed #sonTwo and his wife from my plan. Now I just have to send in $160 to pay off another phone (lost in transit during the return process) and my bill should be around one-third to one-half what it was.
#sonTwo told me today that he gets funny looks when he does that (because of course, no one in Missouri would know the history of the radio station calling itself by that word).
I was on the phone with #sonTwo at the time. He called me stupid. I wasn't going to stay outside, I just wanted to be outside long enough to see the tornado and then run inside the hotel and find somewhere to shelter.
