Does anyone know of a URL shortener-type service for Tor hidden services? I think the biggest problem with hidden services is the totally unfriendly hostnames. It would be great to be able to post a URL like https://example.com/somearbitrarystring that redirects to a .onion url. I found this GitHub project but I can't find a site actually running it, and it's unclear from the README if it's anything other than a pure REST interface.

I feel like not enough people focus on the fact that Germany wants to outlaw hosting Tor servers. A significant amount of Tor is hosted from Germany, but more importantly, if Germany outlaws it, many other countries that so far were afraid to do so will follow suite. All intelligence agencies despise Tor and lobby their governments to shut it down. It's a slippery slope.

@oz the goals are similar in some ways, but for some reason we're always told not to watch video or download torrents via #Tor. I presume that's because it would tax the bandwidth available to the network? So the pitch of a decentralized #VPN network is that users can both pay for a service, or earn by supplying it, without trusting a central provider.

@noorul Oh! Yes. I've gotta stop posting while sleep deprived. Don't ever use #BitTorrent through #Tor! It's akin to downloading a 1.5GB movie on someone's $1/MB dial-up connection. How rude! Do use a #VPN though if you can. They're cool. Like fezes ;)

@noorul @joshim AFAIK that's also a concern with any other tech that uses #BitTorrent protocols. If it's something you're concerned about, I guess you can use a #VPN? Or maybe #Tor?
