MySpace has lost all music uploaded between 2003 and 2015.

    There are no backups.

Don't trust cloud services. One day Facebook, Instagram and Tumblr will be gone too. YouTube will shut down, and so will Google Drive, OneDrive and DropBox.

    Always keep a local copy.

Google is having an outage apparently affecting everything from GMail to Drive, Play, Music etc'.

Just a reminder that even a giant megacorporation with backups of backups of backups can have an accident.

    Here's an idea: a #NoJS challenge.

Making a website? Avoid using JavaScript.

See how much of the functionality and design you were planning can be done using plain HTML, CSS and other web technologies that are now embedded in the typical browser without needing JavaScript code to do any of it.

Even if it seems impossible, look it up. It just might be possible.

There's so much stuff in there now, even a seasoned webmaster could be surprised.

@lain funny thing is sex was always censored on the big websites, this is nothing new.

What's new is that we've consolidated most of the web and other net services to less than 10 websites and act surprised when their content moderation kills our ability to express ourselves.

Sometimes low-tech is a cooler solution than high-tech.

This sensor device detects if your package was handled roughly during transport: no electronics, just clever engineering.

I've just stumbled on DarkStar, a Xerox Star emulator.

The GUIs we use today are a direct evolution of the work done on Xerox PARC in the 70's, resulting in the Alto and other Xerox computers that pioneered GUI on consumer products until Steve Jobs dropped by the lab for a visit.

The Star (1981) was more polished than the Alto and is definitely worth checking out!

The website has configuration info & links to software downloads.

Average people in my area are starting to move from WhatsApp to Telegram. This surprises me given how resistant these people were for anything that isn't WhatsApp, but now it's okay because Everyone is Doing Itβ„’.

This shows is that the average user have no problem switching as long as the rest of the herd starts moving first. They are there to be part of the herd.

So, what causes the critical point that gets a herd moving? In this particular case, WhatsApp has too small a limit on group chat memberships.

I just love the design on the Patlabor's "glove" controls for delicate manual finger movement.

I still want one of those :blobcat:
