@dev_ponies @anna matrix's DAG is extremely fragile and open to manipulation by hostile participants. don't believe the hype. -

switching to OCAP doesn't change that. -

@dev_ponies @anna no it doesn't. instance A grants the authorizations to instance B. there are no third parties influencing this. -

@dev_ponies @anna which is exactly why requiring everyone to play in an open world system is not ideal for all communities. -

@dev_ponies @anna you can have an open federation even with authorization requirements. just grant authorization to everyone by default. but that's not appropriate for all communities. -

@dev_ponies @anna it really isn't. it is when you use broken software like Mastodon, but it certainly isn't over here. -

false. if authorization is required for all federation interactions, it makes greylisting possible. -

@dev_ponies @anna false. authorization is not a component of AP post fetching. that's what the problem is. -

@anna well even if post fetching became authorized on the federation level, there's still an open question about whether or not as:Public posts should require it -

@jhaye there is nothing to be done unless post fetching is changed to require authorization. this won't happen in a month as it requires significant changes to AP. -

@cj my conclusion is that Tusky is well within their right to do the rickroll thing, even though I personally believe that infrastructure should remain neutral -

@noiob the argument is that it's an AP client (it's not, no Mastodon or Pleroma client is an AP client), so they can't be responsible for how it's used.
so far that would make sense except that it's being submitted by Gab, and marketed to Gab users. nobody else is going to use the client over real Tusky. -

platforms aren't ISPs. platforms should have the same obligations as publishers. -

@ice @dielan @freakazoid @kemonine @shaderphantom
that would be a huge mistake. the problem is that sites are being regulated as if they are ISPs. that's what needs to be fixed.
