Taught my dad about some of the perils of floating point calculations based when he showed me some stuff he has done in Excel. It's fun exposing people to things they had never considered or knew before.

I've never been a fan of the big Enter key, to be honest. I think that's the bigger travesty.

@calvin Yeah, no way I'd want to use/run this system on a regular basis. The system message stuff alone is insane.

Also, these sysadmins seem to write tons of perl and Rexx when 1 line of shell would do.

I can totally see why there was a rejection of this model in the world of mini/micro/personal computers.

This is not to say that MVS is what everyone should be using. In fact, it seems downright awful (and has little chance of getting better). But it's probably worth exploring.

Doing this MVS setup and I have absolutely no idea what these commands even mean, although I am getting a handle on what it means to submit a job and look at its output. Still, this is the most foreign tech thing I've ever done, so I must be on the right track to something enlightening.

Trying to set up an MVS system on the Hercules emulator. The instructions are verbose and helpful, but the commands are beyond obtuse. Not only that, you have to telnet into the system to get it going.

I have a long road ahead of me...
