@nico so much this. i still remember vividly when i became aware of this first, when a german former pole vaulter (who i remembered as an androgynously very attractive woman) turned up as a sole talk show guest, as ONE HELL of a man.

i remember just being struck by how *right* he seemed, so much more aware of being the right person than i imagined ever being possible for me. and the enormity of it all!

@maloki this is amadeus. when we got him from the shelter, he had been adopted and brought back several times, because he is not cuddly.
he lived under our sofa for months, completely invisible. us wanting to take him to the vet for the first time got me to the doctor and my mom in the ER.
now, years later, he’s always lounging in the room with the most family people, and really likes head scritches.

@Are0h my big confusion is mainly between: dude caused harm to trans people. no matter how much there is to his disassociating from it, the harm is done. they’ll legit feel unsafe with him around.
otoh, i’m not sure it’s ok to drown him in silly memes and report his account over and over. i dunno, this is probably white as heck, but it doesn’t sit well with me.

and then: how much of my ‘there must be a better way’ is like insisting minorities ought to use proper channels (not available to them)

i was going to ask you about your stance on this kerfuffle at large, because i’m in an honest state of confusion about several things in it, (not g’s response though. that one’s obvious to even me and that says something.) but you have more than enough crap on your plate, you don’t need me piling on.

@webinista truth be told, i’m scared as heck. it’s for an incredibly niche audience (archery analysis, so very numbers-oriented enthusiasts and very quantitative-science oriented archaeologists), but public release still means people will be able to look at my code and judge the fuck out of me.
