Imma make this clear: I'm not building software for developers.

I'm working to building tools for people.

You shouldn't have to know to maintain and secure a server to have your own independent identity online. You shouldn't need to know what libsodium or similar library to be secure online.

That's my objective.

Though I have no problem using #PixelFed on mobile via #Firefox as a Web app, the conversion of other people to the platform from a "wtf is federation" point will be easier with it.

I can see mastodon.art actually leveraging a #PixelFed server to help people curate their art and use #Mastodon to link longer-form text.

We got #PeerTube, #Pleroma, #Mastodon and now PixelFed.

Microsoft's technological advances into free software are that of colonizers into the lands of communities. They work to integrate, "embellish" and then rebrand community work under restrictive licenses and usage rights.

Like for every achievement in that space, I'd want to:

* Explain set up time via media
* Show usages of tools with media
* Show repairability of equipment

Stuff like this could revive hacker groups or places where you can get support on home grown tech. I'd love to do something like that at scale. The thing that blocks us is corporations gate keeping a LOT of content without a flexible retrieval mechanism (aka no EME, no DRM)
