@amolith
Oh nevermind, I just saw the "soon" mark on the fdroid button in their website.

I remember reading a blogpost from the Tor project about how the version in the Guardian Project's repo is pretty much the "official" one since they volunteered/partnered to distribute it through fdroid. -

I'm thinking of starting a video mini series that educates parents (and a subset of adults that look after children) on the ins and outs of parenting their child in a world where social media is so prevalent.
What topics/realms of interest would you like to see covered if I were to do such a thing?
Is this something you'd be willing to support financially/donate to? I would be doing it with or without funding, though funding would allow me to make it a little more polished.

An estimated 50 million tons of E-waste are produced each year. The USA alone discards 30 million computers each year. Linux can help reduce this problem by giving a second life to laptops and PC's. It takes volunteers like many of us here to help people to install Linux and provide them with a fully capable second hand PC.

Back when the GNU project was starting, among the first things they rewrote as Free Software were:
- text editor / IDE (Emacs)
- assembler, linker, and compiler
- makeIOW, they made tools that they needed to further develop Free Software without relying on proprietary tools.
They wanted their project to be self-hosting.
Nowadays, we have more free software than ever, but we develop it using github and Discord...

The web browser Brave is marketed as a privacy-friendly ad-free alternative, but that's pretty disingenuous.
Brave exists not to protect privacy, but to make money from selling ads.
Brave is a commercial company funded by venture capital. Its business model is selling advertising and cryptocurrency investment.
One of Brave's owners is Peter Thiel's Founders Fund. Thiel is also the head of Palantir (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palantir_Technologies) and on the board of Facebook.
I do not recommend using Brave.

Tor's ebook club is giving away Cory Doctorow's book Walkaway.
Read the story of people that are no longer needed by the "zotta-rich" who own all the automated production, so they "walkaway" and build their own communities with open-source versions of the very same automation technologies that rendered those people superfluous in the "default" world.

Let me tell you something, townies and listeners.
I'm here on HT because this community has it going on. Cool folks, cool projects, cool ideas. Yeah, a lot of us love a good fire, particularly if it's flying a megacorp flag. But I want to see what you're building, from physical to philosophical. The weirder the better.
There is a lot to burn down these days. And burn it we shall. But at the end, when we're sitting in the ashes, successful beyond our dreams, what the fuck then? If we don't already have a culture of creation, then there will be nothing left.
So build some stuff. Dream some new dreams. Post that shit up here. And if the haters come, well, I did promise you something to burn.

The future of Linux is ostree:
Your OS is in a container
Your programs are in a container
Everything is in a containerThis is far more advanced than any other OS on the market. Also this makes Linux even more secure than it has to be. BTRFS also has a future with filesystem-level backups so even a thing like Wannacry won't cost you too much time reinstalling your operating system, you just rollback from the state where this didn't happen.

Locks just keep honest people honest.
Any determined or persistent attacker will get past a lock.
That doesn't mean you shouldn't have them, they buy time.... but don't rely on them.
Security in layers.
