my wife is a freelance developer who is highly skilled in unity, C#, python, django. due to disability, she has been struggling with the demands of her corporate contracts and would like to offer her skills on a remote-only basis to conserve spoons. we’re wondering what kind of pay cut we’d have to offer to get the necessary concessions.

@HerraBRE in the US, plastics manufacturers get huge breaks, so instead of increasing taxes, why not just completely remove the breaks... hell, remove all tax breaks for everyone except maybe the extremely poor.

Part of the reason we can still prefer gas cars to electric is because the oil and auto industries get sooooo many dang tax breaks.

Then you don't need tax incentives for good things.

If you share your work, it's okay to want to get paid for it.

Even if it's stuff you give away in other forms or to individuals. Even if it's built on the free work of others. As long as you're not violating a license somewhere, you do nothing wrong by charging to cover your costs working on things, or building things, or maintaining things, or creating things.

We all need to get by. Giving stuff away is great. It's not *required.*
