Don't know much about it, but Booklikes seems to be a closed source site with lots of trackers (Facebook, Google etc).
Yes, there's @mobilizon which will federate through ActivityPub and is due for a first public beta in late October.
By the way, I think the data for books would come from Wikidata, which is the same source already successfully used by @inventaire
I think that is the plan, but bear in mind the project was only begun a few days ago! :blobsmile:
This is why it needs people to help out π

The Wordpress ActivityPub plugin developer is @pfefferle so you might want to follow them / contact them π
I'm not sure, maybe @gregory who suggested KOReader might know?
I did a quick search and found this libre firmware, but it's only for Kobos:
Ok. I'm just using the term the KOReader app makers use in their wiki.
p.s. Note that it may not be possible to jailbreak all Kindles, and even when possible it may be difficult.
Kindles tend to be locked down and hostile to libre stuff, so you might be better off getting a non-Kindle device.
@jofazepa @inventaire @libreture
Thanks for the headsup, sad to find out :blobsad:
@carbontwelve @Alamantus @inventaire @libreture @sohkamyung @tootbrute
I think there would be an audience, Goodreads really does come up again and again when people send me requests for alternatives.
KOReader is a libre eBook app for Kobo eReaders, jailbroken Kindles and several other devices:
There isn't any onboarding for non-tech people, so you may want to ask a techy friend for help.
Installation instructions are in the Wiki:
Kobo
https://github.com/koreader/koreader/wiki/Installation-on-Kobo-devices
Kindle (jailbroken only)
https://github.com/koreader/koreader/wiki/Installation-on-Kindle-devices
Other devices incl. Android, PocketBook and Cervantes

(Thanks to @gregory for the tip!)

There would definitely be demand, Goodreads comes up regularly as a thing people want a direct alternative for π
As far as I know there's no exact replacement for Goodreads, but I can't see why there couldn't be?
@inventaire gets its book title data from Wikidata and contributes to the database as well, and anyone can use that data.
Perhaps someone can develop this further based on existing sites, or start something new?
