@kemonine @dokuja Oh! Oh, fun, so just rx of broadcast tv. So you got one of those butterfly antennas? I’ve been pondering that lately, given what a pain ATSC is, the high cliff of signal coherence. I had an idea to do a waveguide with an insulated / grounded shell to cut out interference, but not having a tv tuner it’s way on back burner.

I do so hope it works. Would you please update with how it goes, especially wrt interference and bad weather?

@kemonine @dokuja Oh, it’s heaps fun, and very retro but mixing newschool in if in the right circles. A lot of interesting hams / radio nerds float around fediverse, some with serious skillz. SDF has an active group. I like making antennas but don’t have such great skills.

May you please talk more about the project here if that’s jake? Is this a lollipop on air? What band?

@kemonine @dokuja It might be a cultural / argot thing? Hams tend to measure our antennas by wavelength, since distance is defined by so many variables both engineering and environmental. I’m told it’s now a bit anachronistic for other radio geek fields, and a function of tradition | hams liking HF so much.

@dokuja @kemonine Yes, lightbulb. Haha. HF geeks think nothing of obscene length antennas, but 50 miles did seem overkill.

@kemonine Haha, oh, for distances! Sorry. Oh, jolly good then. What did you settle on? I’m a yagi fan myself, but dishes and waveguides are fun.
