@wolf480pl a bit of language pedantry, it would be more normal in English to say "on the streets" (or maybe "in the street") and "in the town square(s)". Don't ask me why ...

    > Is this false?

It's about as true about the street or town square as it is about the web, for all the same reasons ;)

@wyatwerp Photo albums only need HTML/CSS, unless you want them to be private and shared only with certain people. In which case FOAF doesn't really help you with that as far as I understand it (although maybe combined with Oauth?). Public comments on public blogs/ videos/ podcasts etc, maybe, but there are other protocols like #WebSub that can also be used for that.

@wyatwerp like the author said, FOAF was a product of a time when it was normal for most web users to have personal and professional homepages. I can't see how it would be helpful for chat, maybe for finding the chat address of a user by entering their email address or homepage? But you'd still need a chat app using a realtime protocol like #IRC, #XMPP, #Wave, #Matrix, or #WebRTC.

      Web 2.0 Can Be Dangerous...
      from Nielsen Norman Group
AJAX, rich Internet UIs, mashups, communities, and user-generated content often add more complexity than they're worth. They divert design resources and prove that what's hyped is rarely what's most profitable.

#FunGame take any quote where people make vague, doomsaying comments about the web or the net in general, and replace those words with "paper" throughout the quote.

@kravietz it would require SSB apps to include a node of the namechain (if they want to implement the feature) and check any unfamiliar public keys against it whenever they download new posts. Like the way web browsers include code to reference the #DNS system, so they can map the domain name of a website to the IP address of the webserver that hosts it.

@kravietz the blockchain is the means of ensuring uniqueness of usernames without a centralized nameserver. I don't understand why this wouldn't also be useful on SSB (or any social network), especially if it had 1000 times its current user numbers.

@kravietz with Jami, the account isn't stored on the blockchain, only a record that associates a certain account ID with a certain username. If you delete your account (or lose access to it), that username effectively points to nothing.

    I just tested #RecordScreenIO:
    https://recordscreen.io/

Worked perfectly, super easy to use. I was able to choose whether to record my screen and webcam, or just the screen, and which elements of the screen to record (whole screen or particular window?). After asking the web browser for permission to use the mic. and access the screen, it recorded with my voiceover, and presented the result as an embedded video. Then I had the option to download the video, or close and try again. 10/10 #UX
