@falgn0n thanks for the tip, I'll check it out. This is the first time I've used an Android/Linux device as my everyday phone and I'm spending a lot of time exploring what's available, and how to get it to work well ;)
Kia ora @aran good to see you here. I remember coming across your #OrganicDesign wiki (recommended by a mutual friend I believe), and we may have even interacted by email a couple of times? I'm from Aotearoa too, I've been blogging at disintermedia.net.nz/blog for a few years now.
#Yalp is so cool! I just realized I can use it to update all the unremovable gOgle crap on my #Android/Linux mobile without needing a gOgle account. It can even update apps that I've installed via APK if they are distributed via the Play store and not (yet) via #F-Droid (eg Wire). Plus of course I can use is to install and manage apps that are not on F-Droid. Bliss!
@axelspireseries@erosdiscordia I'd love to be part of a writers cooperative that does editing the same way the Loomio cooperative does managing. In Loomio, each staff member selects another member to be a sort of 'manager' for them. That person helps them write their job description and plan their workload, and holds them accountable for doing what they committed to, or helps them modify their job description or work plan as appropriate as the cooperative's work progresses.
@axelspireseries@erosdiscordia I know what you mean. I always used to wonder why professional writers need editors. But after years of editing my own work for the web, and trying to finish larger solo writing projects with no editorial oversight or feedback, I totally get it.
@axelspireseries@erosdiscordia funny, I'm kind of same-same-but-different. In that I too struggle with a lack of self-confidence, but I'm able to see my writing and other creative work as something separate from myself, that can have merit and be accepted even if I can't.
@erosdiscordia@axelspireseries good question. I'm just more comfortable promoting causes or group projects. Maybe that's why I persisted with the #Disintermedia identity even when I failed to attract any ongoing collaborators (although I've had a few people help behind the scenes with this and that), and why I'm now orbiting around the #P2PFoundation and contemplating merging my efforts with that.
@zatnosk@aral is it being standardized by the #IETF? There was a time I would trust without question that IETF processes keep protocol development vendor neutral. Now, after the whole EME fiasco at the W3C I'm not so confident. But I'll still trust the IETF until presented with evidence that it's compromised.
@mlg@xj9 the system I saw was much smaller, about 4-5 cubic metres of biomass. When the composing was working at peak it could heat enough water for a short shower.
@xj9@pony@Technowix@mlg I ought to add that it snows in the winter in the top half (or so) of China. They just rug up and ride their e-bikes anyway. They have really cool lined rugs designed specifically to fit over the handlebars, keep the riders hands warm, and protect their body from cold winds blowing over and around the bike.
@raucao@enkiv2 that can go both ways. I believe Walking Dead has run out of comic source but it continues to deliver strong, character-driven stories. In contrast, the pacing of the last couple of seasons of #GoT has been appalling. Eg they spent a whole season building up the alliance against Cerci, then that whole war was over by the end of the first episode of the next season. I'm really just watching now because I can't look away #TrainWreck
@natecull BTW I would add that China has now entered the "growth is good" mode, just as the US is experiencing "limits to growth". They pay lip service to sustainability and environmental protection (just as the US has since Carter), and yes, I see a lot of electric mopeds, share bikes, and solar and wind farms. But the unspoken assumption seems to be their industrial expansion can continue indefinitely as it has since the 70s, just "greener".
@mlg@xj9 hmm. Wood gasification sounds a bit like the #BioChar systems I've seen at #permaculture events. I believe the gas they produce is methane, and the resulting charcoal can supposedly be mixed into soil to both improve drainage and add habitat for soil biota ("terra preta").
