It's totally routine for businesses to deploy Wordpress or Drupal without giving any prominent credit to those projects. GNU/Linux distributions include hundreds of pieces of other people's software in their branded product, nobody bats an eyelid. It's totally normal for web apps like Mastodon to include upstream components without users being any the wiser. What is it about @purism that makes some people so keen to bash them for doing the same? @a000d4f7a91939d0e71df1646d7a48 @Blort
@joegab > planning strategies to prevent contact with people from OUTSIDE the building
Like not having staff in the prison, or not letting prison staff go home? Also, are you proposing putting every prisoner in solitary until the pandemic is over? Think it through.
@Blort true, perhaps these projects need to switch to proprietary #SourceAvailable licenses, to prevent Purism from pioneering a non-#datafarming business model for network services, using only #FreeCode software, in ways that comply with their current software licenses to the letter? </sarcasm>
In a way, the shipping delays have actually worked in favour of the #PinePhone project. By the time the next production run is ready to begin, the performance of the OS ports for the device will be much further ahead than it would have been on the original schedule. I would probably wait until Christmas before buying one for a grandparent though, to give the OS devs even more time to polish their offerings. @skobkin@PINE64
"In Europe, it's likely that you're going to start seeing much more modal, intrusive consent dialogs when visiting a site. Don't blame the publishers, they're acting at gunpoint and facing a cartel. But know this: nothing forces you to consent. They are not allowed to lock you out if you refuse. There's only one thing you need to do: Just Click No."
"Regulation or not, now that #Safari has brilliantly demonstrated that it is possible to get rid of third-party #tracking without breaking the Web it is only a matter of time before other browsers will have to stop being complicit in violating the privacy of their users. Sure enough tracking companies are desperately attempting to fight back with nasty hacks, but those are just the agonising throes of a dying breed. It's over." - #RobinBerjon, 2018 https://berjon.com/advertising-war-on-consent/
"We can take back control of our personal data by storing data in our own data pods. The spread of misinformation can be halted, because a free choice of applications allows us to influence our news feed—and all information in there can be traced back to its source. Political advertising becomes more transparent, as we can decide which parts of our data we expose to whom; moreover, the separate data and services markets allow us to consider other options that are not based on advertising ..."
No worries 😂 It's an elegantly simple #UX once you get your head around it. A really well thought out design all round. Because the #Guppe server only boosts posts that mention its group users, rather than storing posts itself, I imagine an instance is fairly @lightweight to run (pardon the pun)
@rick_777 I prefer to think of it as community sufficiency. In times like this, the wisdom of providing for most our needs from our local #bioregion becomes much easier to appreciate. @cypnk@TheGibson
@lightweight that's great, if you could mention @RemoteLearning when you post about that sort of thing, anyone following the #Guppe group will get the posts in their feed.
