@0 you misunderstand. My email client renders plaintext just fine. It's just that very occasionally I get email that says nothing but the text I quoted above, because the email generating software sending it hasn't been designed to provide for users who set their email client to reject HTML ;) #GracefulDegradation
@cypnk this is *very* old news. Since that blog post was published, the AP 1.0 spec has been officially released, and @cwebber has moved on to #Spritely and #Datashards and unofficially written off MediaGoblin as a dead parrot, superceded by #PeerTube. TBH I'm surprised to see GoblinRefuge still running.
I was just looking at thepiratebay.org (purely for research purposes of course ;) and noticed a little green play button next to some of the magnet links. Clicking it took me to #BayStream, where I was able to start playing the torrent in realtime (for research purposes of course), presumably using #WebTorrent? https://baystream.co/
@bob I know, right? But Granny Herald is traditionally a broadsheet, the major daily paper of NZ's largest city. Officially not a tabloid. Our tabloids, like the ironically named NZ Truth, have mostly already gone to the wall.
@lnxw48a1@clacke that's sad :( This is why federated groups need to be served collaboratively from the instances hosting anyone who joins, not just tied to the fate of the originating instance.

@jalcine Another thing I notice is that people will use a free code tool once, and continue regurgitating the same criticism for years and years, despite the fact that if they bothered to check, it's long since been solved. When I started using GNU/Linux as my daily driver just over a decade ago, I would still come across people saying with a straight face that it's "not for the masses" because there's no GUI interface, based on having tried it a decade or more before.
@jalcine sometime this is just people role-playing the hip technology critic, while not really having given the matter any serious thought. Like the tech equivalent of indie music poseurs declaiming "I like your old stuff better than your new stuff" or "they were better before they sold out" or whatever.
@ewankeep FYI the #Vidcommons team runs a full #PeerTube instance at Vidcommons.org, where we add good quality videos under a #CreativeCommons license or other commons licenses that allow free distribution (stuff in the #PublicDomain etc). If anyone would like to suggest videos to add, or get involved, we'd love to hear from you. @ChrisWere
Although I'd prefer to have an option in PT that allows me to clone shortened versions of videos to a YT channel, with a link to the full version on PT ;)
The #NZHerald is one of #NZ's most prominent daily 'papers of record'. It's "most popular" story of the day, according to a #clickbait sidebar, is a piece of exhaustively researched public interest journalism entitled; 'Man's farts so deadly he kills mosquitoes in a 6m radius'. This sidebar was next to an article about recent floods Te Wai Pounamu: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12291959
@info_activism for now, maybe. Until they get acquired. The problem with Goggle is its a completely centralized system controlled by a single corporate entity. Switching to a different centralized system, also controlled by a single corporate entity, just moves the problem sideways. The solution lies in some hybrid of free code search projects #Searx and #YaCy.
