Hi folks, I'm going to be streaming a little Mass Effect 2 if anyone wants to hang out. I'll also be streaming to DLive.

@DashEquals This is just my lukewarm take, but I find it's helpful to take regular vacations from most social media from time to time.
I can also recommend liberal use of the mute button for people get heavy-handed with their own opinion.
Another useful tactic I find, is to set up an alt account on a less politically orientated instance.
Unlike most other social media, the #Fediverse doesn't hold your hand or wrap you in cotton wool, so we need to be responsible for our own mental well being.
For anyone vaguely new to the #Fediverse. I've compiled a list of tools that some might find useful.

Feel free to let me know of any glaring omissions.
Since it's #FollowFriday #ff I'd like to give a shout-out to the companies and groups who think the #Fediverse is worth their time.

If you're new here and looking for people to follow. There's a handy directory of users catalogued by interests called trunk. https://communitywiki.org/trunk
If you're a regular here, it might be worth getting yourself added to you preferred categories.
So I decided to try an experiment with today's video and upload a video in my screen's native resolution of 1440x900, a 16:10 aspect ratio.
Whereas both platforms support the 16:10 aspect ratio, YouTube insists on stuffing it into it's 720p re-encoded resolution making it look sub-par to its #PeerTube counterpart.
Basically, PeerTube seems to have better support for slightly odd resolutions. A small thing but interesting nevertheless.
So one cool new thing about #PeerTube is the introduction of friendly URLs for channels.
So if you wanted to catch all of my video content, you could follow @chriswere but if you only wanted to follow my tech content you can just follow the channel directly at @chrisweredigital or if you were only a fan of my #GameOfThrones content, you can follow @oursisthetheory
That's really neat, I think.
After watching this recent bout of bullying spiral out of control is the first time I've felt the Fediverse might not be for me either.
Regardless of your view on the chap, if that kind of abuse can happen to someone you don't like, it can happen to you, or someone much more vulnerable. It's been made abundantly clear that our anti-abuse tools and our community behaviour are inadequate.
The Fediverse failed today and we need to take a critical look at what can be done.
At some point LinuxRocks and Fosstodon need to have some kind of gaming tournament. OpenArena or Xonotic perhaps?
I've compiled a short list of useful 3rd party tools that can be used with Mastodon. You may find it useful https://chriswere.neocities.org/links.html#mastodon
Nice to hear that the JB team @jupiterbroadcasting are enjoying their initial foray into #PeerTube.
Nice to see @jupiterbroadcasting on #PeerTube and in the Fediverse.
In case y'all didn't know you can subscribe to them through Masto/Plemora: @jupiterbroadcasting.
I'm hoping to get some of my videos up on share.tube today. If you wish to follow me there, you can find me @chriswere.
@h @alcinnz Here's fun fact: you can find the RSS of any Masto user by adding ".atom" to the end of their profile, so for example, your profile's RSS feed would be, https://social.coop/@h.atom.
I've been thinking about giving #Manjaro :manjaro: #Linux :linux: a try. Anyone about who uses it? If so, how are you finding it?
I'm also particularly impressed with how my website looks on Links and other text-only browsers.
Basic, bloat-free designs tend to look good on all kinds of browsers.

It's cool that ActivityPub is an official W3C recommendation now. https://www.w3.org/blog/news/archives/6785
