I notice you've started published code implementing aspects of #ActivityPub in #Go:

There are a couple of other federation servers written in Go, including #GoFed . I'm just wondering if it would be possible to re-use some of their code to implement ActivityPub, so you can move on to writing the code specific to fediQuest?

@MatejLach bring on @forgefed (or #sourcehut or #SaT or #GitSSB)! There are lots of projects working on a federated #CodeForge network, but there is a lot still to be done to get it all usable for anyone other than command line wizards. A good test project would be a docs forge, like #flossmanuals, but federated. If mere mortals can collaborate on docs using federated editing tools, they're ready for anyone to use.

@yaaps sure, but I read the post by @drequivalent as saying that Mastodon and Pleroma ought not to support the groups feature. Perhaps that was a misread on my part, and the actual intend of that post was that the microblogs ought not to add complex UI for threaded group discussions (beyond improving what they already have perhaps).

@drequivalent there are already a number of projects working on specialized UI for navigating groups and threaded conversations, federated over AP. The Reddit-a-likes like @prismo , #Lemmy ( @LemmyDev ), Littr.me ( @mariusor ), #lobsters, #Guppe ( @datatitian ), #MoonTree , and #Pantheon. Friendica and Hubzilla also have groups that could be federated over AP, although I don't think they are yet.

@mbajur is this still a thing? How about something that doesn't sound at all like Tumblr, but describes what it does? Like Petri, as in, something that puts a bunch of media in one petri dish to be examined.

Sometimes it seems like about half of political discourse consists of making excuses for things humans do at scale, despite almost universally agreeing in private that we need to stop doing them. Do you want to help people find up-to-date information about apps that respect their #SoftwareFreedom? The #FSD (Free Software Directory) is a project hosted by the #FSF that aims to do just that:

There is a constant need more volunteers to help add entries for software that's not listed yet ,and update the information for existing entries. I'm sure suggestions for how to automate aspects of the update process for new versions etc would be welcome too.

Few concepts are so perplexing, to those who lack a hacker sense of irony, than the #BDFL title. Every word is the opposite of how #OpenSource really works. "Dictator for life" is really only as long as they are widely seen by the contributor community as being beneficial to the project ("benevolent"). Since the community can fork around project leaders at any time (like the #LibreOffice hackers forking around the #OpenOffice leaders), they remain "dictator" only by consent of the "dictated to".

I wish there was an ethical book-buying platform where I could buy a print copy of a book to donate to a library, and get myself lifetime access to downloads of digital copies in a range of formats (.pdf, .mobi, .txt etc) with the same purchase.
