Sometimes I am of the same opinion as @Johncdvorak that the Internet needs to be dismantled

I resisted until recently to hook my Recording DAW to the Internet.

It wasn't even on the network. I got lazy and gave in.

@ayy grants and patronage isn't a business model, unless you're going after Soros money, and he has a significant amount up for grabs

@skoll it wasn't ostatus, but the Mastodon logo, name and such. Probably just locking it down. It's not that expensive to do if you know what you are doing. But he would also have real expenses involved in the Mastodon project.

Certainly a monetisation of the network is near impossible. Value for value and chipping in to cover costs is more likely, but ads, targeted marketing, spam bots, celeb endorsements will drive away the users that came here to get away from that. Still people have thrown money at dumb things before

Actually, it's been a while since @Johncdvorak has written about Mastodon, not that he uses it ever. He's over on the tweeters. He will say what he wants, and he will dig into something if he smells a rat.

I imagine he would jump on it if Eugen was going for some sort of VC or looking at commercialising it in some way.

Anyway, the truth has this funny way of coming out, one way or another
