When #IRL, you share a beer with a brown person and they explain to you the bigotry and outright mistreatment of brown people....by other brown people and you tell them that's because #BrownLivesDontMatter and they laugh and say "that's so funny because it's true", and they complain about the "left" not addressing this, and simply promoting hateful ignorance or ignorant hatefulness...we couldn't decide which one...I feel there is hope #IRL

The other thing local BBSes had going for them: there was a good chance you'd actually meet people in person due to physical proximity. Much harder to be a douchebag to someone you can put a face and voice to.

Pretty sure that's always been the case @ChrisWilson.

Back in the BBS days, you usually dialed into a local system in your local area. Conversations were fewer and took place over days and weeks rather than in minutes, as happens today. More time to think and process.

Social media today is like a water cannon in comparison. Butthurt happens in volume and all at once. Too much for everyone to process, even for those of us who used BBSes long ago.
