@gemlog When we vacation the other two would flip through the channels. I became cranky when they'd do this at 9:30 pm unless there was something good on TCM. I've reached the point where everything seems formulaic: only the clothes, voices and faces change delivering the same pabulum.
@gemlog I hadn't enrolled for cable or satellite either. Last time I had cable was when I was an apartment dweller, came with the rent. I was thinking today about how my memories of Canadian TV have been reduced to blues guitar "thems the breaks" lick and lacquered actors in power suits and big corporate office windows. So tired of it.
@gemlog Dogs are needy. I have a cat who is needy. The breed is such where if they don't have human contact for over 12 hrs they go nuts. Beautiful animals but vexed beyond measure if they are kenneled.
If you get server errors and can't get your cursor to turn to an arrow hovering over a username, to follow someone try adding eir account to a RSS feed, e.g. https://mastodon.cloud/users/christinao.atom
I get 500 Internal Server Errors when I try to follow someone on a remote instance. Do some instances refuse remote follows? Is this an individual's setting?
one of the biggest "go screw" messages we could ever deliver to rampant venture capitalism is to slowly but surely move towards owning only things we can rebuild and repair nigh indefinitely at low cost of ownership over lifetime.
I just now learned there's a mastodon #instance for discussions of #fountainpens and #ink and #cephalopods, DNS, Evernote, science, and analog/digital photography. It's called squid.cafe
Are we persnickety Firefox 57 users shopping online for holiday gifts finding how sluggish and barely adequate some publicly traded stores' cart applications are?
Still beats finding parking, jostling other shoppers, and choosing a fat paperback to read while waiting in a long line for checkout.
@SlowRain@afterconnery I find that the meat and fish are priced in 100g units in the province of British Columbia. Outside of Canada for a while I bought fish ONLY from a monger who had worked in Switzerland because he understood grams/ounces conversion.
@kemonine And I am still giggling over "Ananin amina kale kurar sabah aksam mac yaparim" which is Turkish for "I would like to set up goal posts in your mother's vagina and play soccer in there all day."
