Personally I'm in a weird spot where I've got the urban salary but I'm a remote worker and I'd really like to find somewhere where I can actually afford property without having to deal with a condo association. I don't really want to get a mortgage on a 500k box with asshole neighbors.

@Combaticus @TomNovak @YoVinnie I'm originally from KY. My parents hit retirement age and moved back. Believe it or not there still is a place in America where people leave the doors unlocked.

I'm reminded why the Tweetbag is garbage. Logged on to see what my childhood friend was tweeting about and here was some social justice douchebag rando from Seattle trying to berate him. I generally remain civil but this kind of thing brings out all sorts of negativity. People would never act this way in person.

@dcgirl yep. The deal is that by the I71 law you can only smoke weed in a private residence (I smell it on the street much more frequently these days). If you are in govt housing though, they can kick you out for it, so it is considered unfair.

It's in my 'hood and I pass by frequently. He always wears taht smurf cap. Nice guy but fully in activist mode I think. I actually found my way in to their HQ once and I get their emails and whatnot although I've never participated in any of it. I guess I'm what you'd call a "tourist".

@dcgirl so I know at least one of the folks heavily involved with the event is Adam Eidinger who is an activist that legalized pot in DC (yay) and stages all these "smoke in" protests and is involved in all kinds of similar causes. I also know the folks involved in this are all dedicated Burning Man attendees.

@DrChris Reparations are pretty much a dead argument. There's no way to reliably enumerate most of who the descendants of slavers and the enslaved are, if such a thing were even ethical. Otherwise you're just talking about a disbursement based on ethnicity which would be immediately challenged on a legal basis, possibly by the 14th Amendment.

@DrChris well, alot of enslaved Africans got shipped to the Arab world instead. The mortality rate was much much higher, which is why you don't see an equivalent ethnic minority in that region.

@stsmith Long ago, when I first arrived in DC, my roommate was working as a room service guy at a hotel while looking for a poli-sci job. Then Senator Biden was staying at the hotel and ordered room service. He answered the door in his robe which was loosely tied, with his junk hanging out. I asked my friend if he thought the Senator was coming onto him. He said he didn't think so but just "didn't give a fuck".

@panda_monium In light of all the recent stuff, I rewatched the recent Nicolas Winding Refn film "Neon Demon" - it is as weird as ever for fans of film, but it really is about the exploitation of young women in LA - one must imagine that this script was not invented out of whole cloth speculation.
