I think I got my "Basic Economy" flight issues sorted, thankfully. Had to explain the intricacies of that fare classes to a fucking travel agent, who you think would know this stuff.

Meanwhile, I am reminded why I moved out of the People's Republic of California 20 years ago. Nice place to visit, but glad I live somewhere else now.

I can't decide what's worse: that Basic Economy fares exist or that our travel agency decided to book me on one when I asked for my flights to be changed.

@cGt2099 its kinda disappointing to hear my kids parroting the Dimension B crap around this. I try to tell them: the real problem is lack of competition, but they don’t get it. 😑

@SpookyR @ChrisWilson @SirBemrose behind the scenes, telcos pay to complete calls on each other’s Networks. In some rural areas, that cost is higher, and is enough to cover costs for more interesting services.

10 years ago, there was a plethora of “free conferencing services” and the like with inbound numbers in Bumfuck, Idaho-Type places. After AT&T and the like lobbied the FCC to change the rules, a lot of those services went away. A few still remain, though.

@SwissSenna I never really got into gab.ai. Politics seem to be to the opposite of Dimension B, which is not a whole lot better IMO.

If you can handle midwest-like winters and hot summers, there are worse places to live than Spokane.

I would be very sad if I had to give up coffee. It’s pretty much the only liquid I consume as part of my intermittent fasting regimen.
