Reminder: OCR is the beginning and not the end of making your text accessible. It often outputs some garbage and always benefits from a look over and some cleaning up by a human. It is not magic and it doesn't mean there's no work left for you. Sorry.

Seriously, I was so happy to see that a couple times today. If you can't do it, or you just can't be bothered, it helps me if you say it's not there. It genuinely can feel disappointing or isolating to hope for one and find nothing. Better to know not to expect it.

Holly :heart_agender: (hollyamory@mspsocial.net)'s status on Tuesday, 07-May-2019 05:38:37 EDT Holly :heart_agender: Spouse is so averse to interacting with medical systems at all now, "all they do is tell me I'm fat," he says.
I'm sympathetic, I'm fat too, but also I've had to badger him for MONTHS to get him to schedule routine blood tests for a med he's on, and to chase up his autism referral. Even for these things he's sure "they're just going to yell at me for being fat."
If fat people are less healthy? This is why. It's not being fat, it's systemic institutional fatphobia.

The rover Europe sends to Mars in 2020 to look for life will carry the name of Rosalind Franklin. (She of the "what did Watson and Crick discover? Rosalind Franklin's notes!" joke I've seen going around.)
Plenty of stuff sent (or about to be sent) into space has men's names -- the Hubble and Webb telescopes, the Parker solar probe, etc -- but I can't think of anything that's had a woman's name so far.

I would /love/ an option to have the text display instead of the emoji. -

But today I saw someone write "horndt" and I love that addition of an extra letter that people think should be there (linguistic name: epenthesis), like when people write "hampster."
Can't wait until we start getting linguistic analysis of Mastodon/the fediverse, 's what I'm saying.

Did you know color combinations can be measured and result in a number that has to be over a certain threshold to be accessible? I think that's pretty cool.
In an internet of light grey text on white backgrounds, it's nice to see how many, many better options are available. :)

The tiny difference between them is my biggest problem with accessibility on Mastodon.
