Welding and tech are two industries that are roughly the same age, yet one has internationally-accepted codes that ensure the work doesn’t endanger human lives, protects its workers’ rights with robust unions and safety practices, and has professional organizations that actually keep workers skills up to date.

    Welding also pays more.

@Laurelai just as a fyi, my previous employer had an explicit "use it for good, not evil" license for their datasets, and they took it very seriously

This project to retrofit a house for energy efficiency with pretty low-tech is great. We need more of this at the DIY scale. Getting buildings to regulate themselves and also tackling simple efficiency issues like, you know, insulating walls, using thermal sinks like concrete... so good.

Look at this awesome treadle press from the Minnesota Center for Book Arts!

Imagine this, but 3d printed at small scale, for DIY printing press operations that aren't reliant on tech like traditional printers. This is so much a part of what #solarpunk is about, for me. Finding what worked before and using it in today's context, not taking for granted that any technical progress is always beneficial.
