In any case, it doesn't bother me, but it does bother some followers, and it doesn't hurt me to acknowledge that :)

Well that was a productive few days hacking on my #homeassistant setup...
* Got full integration with my #hestiaPI thermostat (via a REST sensor and REST switch) which eliminates my old MQTT approach.
* Got an automation script in place to handle the awkward Hestia boosting
* Got a fake switch in place to allow me to do repeated boosts while the fake switch is on.
* Set up a generic_thermostat object which reads from a #sonoff and sets the fake switch accordingly.

Understanding environmental impact is hard.
Me and my gas-guzzling mini-van have a much lower impact than most "green car" owners... simply because I drive way, way less than average.
Planes aren't bad for the environment because they burn lots of fuel. Planes are bad for the environment because they are convenient and encourage, enable and create a market for massive amounts of travel.
Switching to advanced, super-clean vehicles won't improve things nearly as much as telecommuting would.

We must constantly fight to protect our attention from the myriad of digital and physical distractions. Constant distraction is our default state now unless we take active steps to create focus.

@bthall was very good, I hope the slides will go up soon. Essentially the gist is, stop using rainbow palettes, they're bad bad bad. Misleading even for fully sighted people, and FETs worse if you consider colour blindness, greyscale,.etc.
Better is to fire up RColourBrewer and use it's tools to pick palettes that grade smoothly and handle colour deficiency well.

@kensanata my understanding was that the patents were the issue for some (which is similar to the situation for mp3). Licenses can be revoked or just not renewed. Vorbis does not have that issue.
At least, that was my understanding last time I looked into it, some years ago. I could be wrong, happy to be corrected :)

@kensanata @fitheach iirc Opus isn't considered free software, whereas Vorbis is. That may or may not be relevant from your perspective :)

@matrix if I decide to run my own homeserver, is there any way to redirect traffic for my matrix.org account to my new mxid? Or do I have manually notify my contacts of the new address (as I would for email)?
I did have a quick search but couldn't see much docs either way. I just don't want people to try and talk to me and get zero response :)
