@rgggn I dunno but I just finished reading New York 2140 (620p in the paperback version) on my old Android phone, using Cool Reader app, purchased from Kobo Books and de-DRMd in Calibre. If you look on the web, you can find non-mainstream e-paper tablets that use .epub format. Many books can be found on PirateBay, but I don't like not paying living authors. I'm considering buying paper copies and then downloading from PirateBay. That's one way of not being surveilled by Amazon and co.

Film is quite reasonable, and study after study seems to show that homeopathy doesn't work. Still, intelligent and honest people subscribe to it, not only in India. When I visit "homeopathic" pharmacies here in Israel, they often provide medicines that are probably better described as naturopathic or herbal preparations. These work in a more gentle way than drugs that are often based on more concentrated versions of the same substances. In India you also have the Unani , Ayurveda and Siddha systems. Perhaps these offer more hope than homeopathy?

Well, so, there's the Christian advice to be "shrewd as snakes; innocent as doves" or the old Hindu folk tale about the sage who tells the snake that although he shouldn't bite people, it's still all right to hiss.

I think the two go together. What was it you said a couple of weeks ago about your days as a postman? (See, I've been paying attention) Words and letters can be a receptacle for so much more than their literal value. Languages that are closer to their roots often convey these forgotten associations For example in Hebrew the word for "peace" also carries within it the implications of "wholeness" and "health". The English word "daughter" comes from an Indo-European root that carries the image of a mother nursing her child. In Chinese, even the characters convey an artistic and poetical meaning.

Isn't this just like you said earlier about "turning paranoia into a career path". To be smart is to use what you've got, even the negative, and turn this to your advantage. Artists do it all the time. (I wish I could monetize my own failings and idiosyncrasies - I'd be a rich man or at least better a better breadwinner!)

In Sanskrit, the large number of words is mechanically due to the use of compounds and metaphor. It's a language based on a fairly small number of roots that are combined in poetic ways. So a word might be "Ganges-receiver" or "River-lord". But still it's interesting that a culture that lived mostly far from the sea would develop so many words for the oceans. Probably because the ocean itself is frequently applied as a philosophical metaphor.

      Free Speech
      from Electronic Frontier Foundation
EFF defends your ability to use the Internet as a platform for free expression through law, technology, and activism. The Internet has radically enhanced our access to information in countless ways, and empowered anyone to share ideas and connect with the entire world. Yet while speech is invited and empowered on the electronic frontier, it is also sometimes threatened. Freed of the limitations inherent in traditional print or broadcast media created—and constrained—by corporate gatekeepers, speech thrives online. Social networking websites allow groups of a dozen friends to grow into massive communities that transcend national borders. Meanwhile, community journalists have used microblogging and video live-streaming to expose the world to stories that long went unheard. Websites like Wikipedia and the Internet Archive have pioneered an open-source model of sharing and preserving information. On the other hand, speech is also threatened online. Coders and developers risk criminal penalties for practicing the kind of digital tinkering, repair, and exploration that enable innovation. Similarly, dissidents and activists, especially those whose opinions may be unpopular where they live, confront chilling effects imposed by government surveillance programs that constrain their freedom of expression. Journalists and researchers can also be stymied by government agencies that limit public access to certain information. The technological capacity enabling even great wonders can mean little when users are denied legal protections for their creativity. Without sufficient legal protections for users and innovators, it's all too easy for governments and companies to undermine your rights. Learn more below and consider supporting our efforts.

Gab, the social network used by the Pittsburgh suspect, has been taken offline
    https://edition.cnn.com/2018/10/29/tech/gab-offline-pittsburgh/index.html

"Gab.com is under attack," the statement said. "We have been systematically no-platformed [and] smeared by the mainstream media for defending free expression and individual liberty for all people."

Gab said on Twitter that it had been "banned" over the past 24 hours by payment processing firms PayPal and Stripe, as well as hosting service Joyent and domain register GoDaddy."

GoDaddy confirmed it had given the site 24 hours to move to a new service, a deadline that expires Monday night on the west coast of the United States. PayPal (PYPL) said it would not allow Gab to use its platform to manage donations from users.
"When a site is explicitly allowing the perpetuation of hate, violence or discriminatory intolerance, we take immediate and decisive action," PayPal said in a statement.

I really dislike WP's Gutenberg editor. I can't find the stuff I need, like how to change the URL after publishing a post. The html coder appears as a tiny block in the middle of the screen, and more. I don't think they are going to win many fans with this, and should not have tried to take it mainstream without ironing out more of the bugs first. Other WP block editors like Elegant Theme's Divi editor is much more polished and I think there are other successful examples. For now, I've gone back to the old editor
