@nimblejack @epicmorphism@animeirl "Cultural appropriation" in its academic context doesn't refer to every and any instance of cultural diffusion tho. It's more specific. Insofar as it's theoretically linked to the idea that there is differential benefit different people get from the same cultural items, there could be a moral element (e.g., making money off an ethnic community that is perhaps even in danger of losing its customs and not giving back in any way).
@kai General rule is always make culturally informed choices and don't be surprised by whatever the reception may or may not be. Half the time "that is cultural appropriation" is the college student version of "you're a poser."
@epicmorphism @nimblejack@animeirl The idea of "cultural appropriation" was originally an academic idea meant to talk about the way groups differentially benefit from their material culture, and its distribution, but a bunch of people decided that it made sense to moralize, especially disproportionately, at the individual level without the necessary work required from shifting contexts from macro to micro. Same thing happened with other concepts. Starts to get annoying.
If I ever get my first few paychecks, I'm gonna splurge it on replacing my Sennheiser's chord cuz its borderline fucked up and I wanna get back to listening to music on my headphones whenever I'm on the go.
Finally planning to do a walk-in resume hand-in with a friend on Friday. This brings my anxiety down considerably. I've already made progress in not discouraging myself with online applications, so this is another step.
@iiogama Kindle Oasis. I wasn't too picky since it was kind of an on-the-spot decision and there wasn't much supply. So far so good. Would have been nice to avoid Amazon tho.
Got myself an eReader yesterday so now I can read many books on the go. Thing is I have mostly a ton of PDFs, but so far they seem readable despite the text flow not being adjustable.
