@tealturtle To be quite honest, not really. In order not to be a little amused by the explanations behind the practice though, I imagine thr concept of qi to just be a provisional, heuristic one meant to guide people into the main ideas which are: using opponent's energy against them, minimizing use of one's energy with equivalent effect, and building a kind of resistance/endurance by holding posture. The latter two related to how you distribute weight.

So I didn't just meditate at the temple today. I did some Tai Chi and holy crap did I sweat. I was dehydrated by the end. Was not prepared for that. :blobsweats:

@pry This! This is exactly the joy of reading--in addition to happening upon different angles from which to view that shared experience or similarity of thought/feeling. To take the time to thicken it and follow its possible paths and implications. It doesn't click for some people though I guess.

@kai Yep. The consumers don't really have too much choice in this scenario due to exclusives, yes. Or, they do, but the choice isn't really over the distribution mechanisms or systems but the content hosted on them, which doesn't make much sense if what you are paying for is the distribution platform as a service. This means that the competition among distribution platforms ends up being over their content, which makes for subpar service or lack of innovation across the platforms.

@kai A lot of econ courses later on start to introduce "frictions" caused by the real physical world. In particular transaction costs in the case of the perfect competition model. But a lot of the orthodox economic theory pushes institutional practices into the backburner for explaining economic phenomena when it should be at the center. It's a bit of obfuscation.
