@methos although the endless barrage of online media hyping, outraging, and whatever else isn't helping either. thankfully, that's easily avoided... directly, anyway.
@tmy@TheCzar yeah, i don't remember exactly how that worked either. yes, it is a black box. i couldn't remember what the BIOS did if it interacted with ME or not.
@TheCzar i think ... ... dell? might sell some laptops under 900$ with linux preinstalled, too. (i forget all the vendor names who deal exclusively in linux). there's quite a few. i believe other major computer companies will also sell linux preinstalls.

@TheCzar the only laptops i know of that come with linux pre-installed are usually pretty steeply priced. the hardware is pretty good, though.
as for intel ME disabled... not sure. corpo stuff on liquidation always has management tech in it but its cheap. there are BIOSes that attempt to regulate/disable it.
(sorry i can't help more, i don't shop for computers often)
