@jeremiah @progo @xahlee @Economic_Hitman i got distracted... accidentally got caught in feature creep trying to find all the different knobs to twist and play with in the design phase.

@jeremiah @progo @xahlee @Economic_Hitman i was reading java se 8's security and tls stuff and i also learned oracle added a functional time library to their standard edition (yay!).
i thought what they had going with that stuff was neat and i was going through implementing what they provided in an application suite...
i hadn't finished, though. so i don't have any reports on how it feels to program against it yet, though.

@adam @ChrisWilson @GluedToTheScreen but! they control their server until then. their community is theirs.
a point of pride and ownership, i guess.

@adam @ChrisWilson @GluedToTheScreen i kinda like it better this way. i enjoy being able to look inside the gated communities as a one-way window. they can block, silence, mute, defederate all they want until everybody gets booted off the internet.

@progo @jeremiah @xahlee it works, though. i just always feel dirty using it.

@progo @jeremiah @xahlee upon second viewing, it's less of a mess (slowly!) but .. eh... the memories are of pain

@jeremiah @progo @xahlee didn't touch billing but touched a lot of their other data entry crap

@jeremiah @progo @xahlee i'll default to building sprawling data entry forms with dozens of tabs and about 10 pages of fields on each tab... multiple windows and modals and whatever all over the place.

@jeremiah @progo @xahlee i kinda gave up on trying to learn to build graphical interfaces

@xahlee i will say i have seen plenty of horror shows written in it. my personal favorite was one that had an incorrect understanding of parallelism (and everything else)... he he. that poor program ran for 15 minutes, chugged, died, every time... we just deleted it after giving up trying to grok it.
was a HUGE system.

@xahlee i think c# is a nice language. i enjoyed dot net framework and msft's common language infrastructure. while their libraries had some peculiarities i had no issue prototyping anything or building larger systems with it. i wouldn't say it's dead, but i haven't touched it in a while... mostly because i don't run a lot of windows machines any more.
