@jeremiah @xahlee community responsibility makes sense if one lives in a community.

@jeremiah @xahlee asphalt is easy to repair, though. just melt it and put it back.

@jeremiah @xahlee i question the requirements of everybody needing a vehicle, driving, and the current state of infrastructure.

@jeremiah @xahlee i still consider labor a cost, as in, you could be spending your time and energy elsewhere. less monetary, i guess. but, time is money, as they say.

@jeremiah @xahlee actually, i think i have far too much thought in the way of "energy efficiency is more than just a house staying warm or keeping cool" ... seems to me the designs of systems that are dealt with daily is a more approachable way to affordability and quality of life.
mowing a lawn every day definitely isn't an affordable or quality of life system for sure.

@jeremiah @xahlee affordability as well, although, as with all things, labor is a cost.

@jeremiah @xahlee actually, i have been reading a little about structure designs that meet a lot of criteria, including the ability to stand for at least more than a generation.
i know it's possible to fit most requirements, save for a few. i wholeheartedly disagree with the idea of a room built for a TV, after all...

@jeremiah @xahlee nah, i've always thought about the true cost of the materials and the needs the owner requires.
i don't really have any data to question them, but there are plenty of upside down systems in the industrial worlds, including those subsidized.

no real response to any of this. i guess any discussion ends at subjectivity, eh?

@jeremiah @xahlee although, i suppose that must be balanced with "do you want a permanent structure, or an adaptable one."

@jeremiah @xahlee how much do those ancient apartments cost to keep or rent? i wouldn't say their architecture is necessarily up to standard today, especially probably not easily retrofitted, but it does last a long time. that might help with some of the depreciating value.

@jeremiah @js290 @xahlee hey now, i didn't say renting was any better :D it appreciates for the landlord, especially if the maintenance and management and taxes are lower than the rental income.

@jeremiah @js290 @xahlee i kid, the stuff in the old world typically looks good and lasts a long time.
