So you're the Pewdiepie of apps, basically: you know you now have a ton of Nazi fans, but you refuse to accept that it's your responsibility to do something about it.

Newsflash: it isn't hard to make these people hate you. Blocking Gab, even if it was a token gesture, would have done the trick. Openly denouncing them in any way probably would too.

It's almost like we don't get listened to. How dare I point out that literal Nazis are review bombing apps that stand up to them and praising Fedilab as their app of choice.

(they're within their right to block me, and honestly I'd rather they do that than have them pop into my mentions again, but it just kinda proves my points about the concerns of marginalized people getting ignored.)

@ben Yeah, Firefox, but you'll be forcing them to do their own legwork! Don't do legwork for fascists or let them benefit from your platform--and certainly don't send the message that you'll just roll over for them because what's the point in resisting?

Not their problem though, right? Even if they're known as the Nazi's app of choice, they're neutral; it's nothing to do with them; how can they shoo Nazis away if they value free speech?

(I mean, not removing a block you already put in to make a point would probably have helped...)

Welp. I hate to be a Cassandra again, but here we are. We're witnessing the beginning of the end of the Fediverse as we know it, in my opinion.

And it's not because Gab joined. And it's not because Kiwi Farms is joining. It's because the privileged people making the decisions are going to play centrist and allow it all until the people most at risk get pushed out.

Doing nothing because you're afraid of starting down a slippery slope, or of having to take responsibility for a decision that has consequences, is just cowardice. If it's within your power and ability to make a difference, then be brave and do it. The world's not going to end because your project takes a stand against bigotry.

Also, listen to people of color. Sorry to offend, but no matter how well informed you think you are on the subject of racism, _they know better._

Listen to women about sexism.

Listen to trans folk about transphobia.

Listen to disabled folk about ableism.

Listen to gay folk. Listen to otherkin. Listen to the poor. Listen to everyone who's marginalized. Listen even if you're in one of these groups yourself!

That's all it takes: don't assume you know better than them.

There is literally no valid reason to leave bigotry to happen. "Free speech"? You're not the government. "Slippery slope, who gets to decide what's harmful, where does it stop"? How about we take a single damn step towards making things better for marginalized people before worrying about going too far? We're as far from "too far" as possible right now. How about we maybe try something and if it causes a problem we reevaluate?

From now on, whenever a franchise has rebels or freedom fighters, can we just agree to call them antifa until the general public gets it through their head?

The Rebel Alliance are antifa. Sonic and his freedom fighters are antifa. Robin Hood is antifa.

@SuzanEraslan They even try to avoid paying taxes, so it's not helping the country. What's the point in measuring success using GDP?

My country's actually looking at replacing GDP with something that takes 'total quality of life' into account when measuring the country's success. Really neat idea I think.
