Cost cutting's finally taking a toll on Interlinked.

I'm now serving hot takes that are no longer hot but warmed under heat lamps on trays.

@er1n Yeah! Hearing that kind of feedback isn't always easy and I'm thrilled they were so responsive and willing to change things.

Some good news; the author wrote back saying they were adopting the term from pulp fiction but they agree and will remove it from future revisions. Yay!

@Kooda Yeah, but a couple of differences, if you're like most: a) you can replace the battery on your laptop b) you turned on that option specifically, and it was an option ;)

HTC, Motorola Say They Don't Slow Old Phones Like Apple Does - Slashdot
After Apple confirmed last week that it reduces the performance of older iPhones to improve battery life, it has left many wondering whether or not other smartphone manufacturers do the same. HTC and Motorola are the two most recent OEMs to say they don't throttle their phones' processor speeds as t...

Apple Confirms iPhone With Older Batteries Will Take Hits On Performance - Slashdot
An anonymous reader quotes a report from The Verge: Reddit users have noticed that Apple appears to be slowing down old iPhones that have low-capacity batteries. While many iPhone users have experienced perceived slowdowns due to iOS updates over the years, it appears that there's now proof Apple is...

So apparently Apple is slowing down older devices, claiming its to preserve battery life... but smells like planned obsolescence to me. We really ought to be able to replace batteries in phones anyhow.

Public transport doesn’t have to be bad.

In Vienna it costs 365 eur for a yearly pass, for five metro lines with a bunch of S-bahn local trains, dozens of tram and a hundred bus lines.

They are mostly clean, on time, metro goes during the night on weekends.

    I don’t own a car here.

Reading it and so far the design looks super good. Except for one thing... it uses "noble savage" as a an example of a character concept :(

I guess it's free culture so I can edit that out but maybe I can convince the original author to remove it...

Evan Prodromou introduced me to FU RPG (Freeform/Universal) which seems like a great game to play completely impromptu and, aside from the acronymn, seems like it would be great to play with kids. http://perilplanet.com/fu-rpg/

It's also free culture (CC BY) and Pay What You Want. I tossed $10 at it. Looking forward to giving it a try!

@ashfurrow I love that part of this movie.

But I wonder, does it make sense? Would a direct wiring of those nerves directly to some output port (to connect to an input port of some computer of course) might be much more sensible and efficient? Unless there's some danger in connecting yourself directly in that way, and physical access is still safer...

@amz3 That's correct, but not just free software being run by a remote entity ideally.

I think users and communities have the right to filter, and it's indeed an important part of free speech. But if they can't participate in that tooling then that's a bad direction.

The original post in this thread was just a side comment on terminology though ;)

Took more clicks to disable secure boot to install Debian than it took to get through the debian installer on my new laptop.

@amz3 Spam filters where users can't run or control the software likewise worry me. But I run my own spam filter on my own email and I think that's fine.
