I have a scheduling problem with meals. Breakfast is ready at 8:30, I'm at work at 10, lunch is at 12:30, so dinner needs to be at 16:30, but I'm not home until 18:30. They should serve dinner at work...
I'm cutting down on my calories starting today. I've been losing weight steadily since the surgery in February, but it's been slowing down over time, and I'm losing less than 1 kg per week at the moment. I've been eating about 1800 calories per day for the past few months and I need to get closer to 1000 calories. It sounds insanely small, but that's the recommended amount for people who've had this type of surgery.
Dad's name for the genre of fantasy is "fake middle age". He could never get over what he views as the nonsensical premise of a setting that seems historical without actually being so.
I guess it's similar to how some people never get over the typical premise of anime: A school kid gets into unrealistically dramatic or embarassing situations.
Ever get into one of those situations in programming where you're overthinking the problem? I feel like my entire career is about trying to not overthink things. I'm an engineer. My job is to think. Trying to only think so much is like trying to eat only one potato crisp.
this is becoming a MAJOR problem in the fediverse. I don't know what the solution is but I think this shows how fragile non-nomadic identity is. Think about this: anyone who had signed up on this instance who is not online for a month for whatever reason (many valid reasons, travel, lack of money for internet, sanity reasons) will go to their home instance and it will be gone.
On Windows, you tend to not really use drag and drop very much. On macOS, it's the main way of doing a whole number of things. You tend to use overlapping windows a lot more also. Well, this is my experience anyway.
The buses have been hot like saunas all summer and NOW they turn on the ventilation system? From baking to freezing. The Ruter bus company is staffed by sadists no doubt.
@SuperFloppies Scripts aren't invented by entire populations, though. At some point in time, a decision was made and a precedent was set. But see the other reply to this thread that proposes that tablet writing is easier to do right-to-left if you're right-handed. That explanation makes sense to me, but only if most historical tablet scripts that don't derive from the same origin run right to left.
Huh. I knew that the Nazis used Wagner's music for propaganda purposes, but I didn't know that he himself was antisemitic. They don't play him on the radio in Israel because he openly despised the Jews.
Question for software developers: If a junior developer keeps asking me to solve his problems for him whenever he encounters new problems, should he be a developer at all?
I can't remember ever having a problem with knowing how to combine bits of knowledge once I have actually learned them. They just come to mind when I need them, together with an intuition about how to combine them in order to accomplish what I want.
