@clacke Utrykket er likt pΓ₯ norsk, og ja, det er underforstΓ₯tt at man ikke ΓΈnsker Γ₯ trΓ₯ i malingen eller male seg pΓ₯ fΓΈttene. @Ricardus You should see the papers I'm skimming through to find dB loss figures for various materials. Those guys are INSANELY high tech compared to me. I look at the math they're doing in those papers and I instantly feel stupid. Most of what I'm doing for this software is high school math and geometry.

@wictory That would be interference due to wave-particle duality. I mean if it will bend like light passing through water or thick glass.

According to my simulator, you get this interesting cone of radio signals if you place a transmitter right behind an obstruction.

One thing I'm wondering about when it comes to obstructions is whether an RF signal will bend like light when it passes through one... My simulator doesn't really make an attempt at mimicking that.

Making stuff hard to imitate is basically the clue to having a viable product in the 21st century. Patents are too hard to defend against a swarm of Chinese copycats.

We are still doing product development in the old fashioned way here in the West. Months and years of planning, funding rounds, marketing, etc. Meanwhile, in Shenzen, China, they can get a product from prototype to mass manufacture almost instantaneously, and sell it on Alibaba.

Inventing and selling basic devices isn't really viable anymore. If the Chinese see something online that might sell well, they're going to copy it. Companies like Apple avoid the issue by having a software ecosystem and making it hard to access that ecosystem on non-Apple devices. Others, like GoPro, develop a strong brand. Apple has a strong brand too, obviously, but they have the vendor lock-in on top of that.

It's slowly occurring to me that I'm in trouble again.

I have taxes due that I can't afford because I have issues concentrating on tasks that don't interest me. I'm afraid of applying for jobs because they never work out for me, and I can't find any freelance gigs.

Running out of money because of this issue is a recurring theme in my life, and I don't know how to fix it.

I've exhausted all my options and my car is about to hit the concrete wall.

@Combaticus As for Jesus, his idea of an old order probably never existed historically. Perhaps in his mind, he was a radical conservative, but to the Jewish establishment, he was definitely not a conservative, so that's why I say that it depends on who you're asking.

@Combaticus Arguably, the definition of "radical" that I gave doesn't really need the "progressive" part in there. If what you want is to restore the *old* order, you're arguably a radical conservative. The sort radical that wants a *new* order seems to occur more often, however, so I guess what I'm saying is that unless explicitly stated, a radical will tend to also be a progressive.

@Combaticus I mean, if you're thinking of this thing called historical conservatism, that's not what I mean. I don't mean modern politics either. I mean a concept of conservatism, progressivism and radicalism that can be equally applied in Feudal Japan, Communist Russia or the United States, because, again, that's far more useful when analysing these social phenomena independently of time and place.

@Combaticus I prefer to define these terms in a way that doesn't attach too many specific value to them, because this makes them far more useful when comparing events at different times and in different places.

@Combaticus They were those things, but per the meanings I intend when I say the word "radical" (see my other toot), they were also radicals. The exact ideology is irrelevant, unless said ideology explicitly seeks to curtail liberty. The *ideal* of communism is not oppression. That's not the message they sold to their followers, at least, but in the end, oppression ensued, and arguably, Christianity also ended up as an oppressive regime until Protestants (i.e. radicals) disrupted it again.

@Combaticus Well, I'm using the word "conservative" and "progressive" in the following senses:

conservative: wishes to preserve the present social order

progressive: wishes to change the present social order for the purposes of liberation

    radical: disruptive progressive

We can argue over the proper definitions, but that's the ones I meant when I wrote the first toot. Any other definitions will change the discussion and it must be started over.

@Combaticus Arguably, people like Mao and Stalin also came to "establish the proper order". Radicals never continue to be radicals once they're in power, because they don't tend to want disruption beyond what they initially planned, so you can't really exclude people who happen to use such language from the definition.

@Combaticus The difference between a radical and a conservative is a bit like the difference between a freedom fighter and a terrorist: It depends on who you ask, and on who won out in the end. If the radical wins, their order becomes the one to conserve. Arguably, he failed to tear anything down in Israel except for some money changer's benches, but his disciples did cause quite a bit of disruption globally...

@maiyannah If it's Affinity Photo: It's an *okay* Photoshop replacement. Better than god-awful GIMP, but not quite as polished as Adobe's products. I'm willing to make that sacrifice to avoid Adobe's cloud bullshit, though.
