@Taweret Correction: The album name should be Discovery, not Homework.

@Taweret I first learned about these guys from Interstella 5555, a movie that Daft Punk had made, with Leiji Matsumoto as the visual supervisor, in order to have music videos for their Homework album, where modified versions of these characters are featured. I never got around to watching Space Pirate Captain Harlock itself, though, since it's not really my kind of anime.

Received the cases for the 5.1 surround summing box I'm building for my roommate. According to the digital calliper I bought, the biggest PCB they could possibly house is 100x150x1.8 mm, which is just about perfect.

I think I'm gradually turning into a bit of a ZyXEL fanboy. They sell some insanely cheap yet feature-packed networking hardware.

@miramarco I mean, I knew one Italian who told me to please not go to Rome because it's terrible there. Meanwhile, most travellers really want to go there...

@miramarco I was wondering if Italians themselves would actually call them charming. For all I knew, your perspective on them could've been that they're out of touch with the times, and only interesting to tourists.

@miramarco I figured it wasn't the best channel. Yes, Venice is obviously a bit touristy, and I wouldn't normally pick a place like that for an excursion. Ideally, I'd actually know somebody in a less touristy region of Italy who could show me around. Also, I'd want to taste some home cooking. In Norway, the restaurant food is very different from what your mother would cook, and I expect the same to be true of Italy.

@miramarco I've been to Italy once, and the only place I was able to see was Venice, because it was a few hours until my plane was departing from Marco Polo airport, and I decided to take a cab to Venice have a look. I walked around for a bit and had a Margherita pizza before going back. I'd like to see more of Italy some day.

@miramarco I get a single Italian channel, RAI1, on my IPTV subscription. The Norwegian audience for Italian TV is understandably not very large. I think that channel is mostly there because people sometimes get curious and want to have a little peek at what's going on in Italy.

Every time I see a linear scale where a logarithmic scale would work better, I'm mildly annoyed. Network traffic graphs are always linear, but a logarithmic scale would make much more sense. They always try to fix it with auto-ranging on the Y axis, but thats's not very helpful.

Watching Italian TV is kind of fascinating, in part because I can understand bits of it, and in part because they have some pretty weird shows.

So, apparently, in Italian, guillotines are female. Just watched a game show on RAI1 and the game host kept saying "guillotina" and halving the prize when the contestant got some kind of guess wrong.

I managed to convince the landlord to pay for some ZyXEL 8-port managed PoE+ switches in the other buildings to power the Linksys LAPAC1200 access points instead of using old switches and a whole lot of PoE+ injectors.

@SuperFloppies On the non-IPTV WANs, I am now pinging the UNINETT (Oslo University Network) main router of the NIX (Norwegian Internet Exchange) to check connectivity. If you can't reach that router from a Norwegian ISP, you're *definitely* not online anymore, since everybody peers with UNINETT.

@SuperFloppies I discovered that the check-gateway=ping option for routes is a bit flaky on RouterOS. Every time it pings, it momentarily sets gateway-status to 'unreachable', which prompted my check-network email script to send an email whenever running it happened to overlap with that little glitch. Took a long time to figure out what was happening. After that, I dropped using that flag and just pinged from the script instead. Now I don't need pinging, except for the WANs.

@SuperFloppies It's probably a bit of a theoretical scenario that 2 out of 3 connections from the same ISP are down, but if it ever happens, I want the 3rd connection to be used, and the only way I could get the other routers to ignore the other possible fallback is if they are aware of the fact that only one fallback (out of 2) is possible.
