The 2-to-1 5.1 surround summing/mixing unit that I'm designing is taking shape. It will have 6 inputs and 3 outputs, a 4-LED peak meter, micro-USB power and a power switch.

It's designed for gamers who have two computers and a PC surround speaker system (such as the Logitech Z506 or Z906. Instead of switching between audio sources, it combines them into a single source.

What should I call it?

@aral Not the answer I want to hear, but yeah, I'm going to call them on Monday. I just wanted to be reassured that there isn't a problem so I didn't need to worry about it, but it looks like that isn't happening.

@bamfic I'd like to have the same thing, but at the positive rail. I'm not sure how, but I'm fairly sure I'd need a P-channel MOSFET in some kind of configuration to get that. I saw a soft latch power switching circuit that used a P-channel MOSFET switched by a BJT, but I was unable to coax it into ramping up instead of switching on instantly.

@bamfic Yes, but it's the actual switching that's difficult. At the moment, I have come up with a solution that uses an N-channel MOSFET and an RC network, but it's switching GND and I'd prefer to switch the positive rail instead. I have the cap between the gate and the drain, and for reasons I don't quite understand, this produces a nice linear current ramp-up...

I had a toothache accompanied by a little bleeding, so I booked an appointment with a dentist. In the meanwhile, the pain and bleeding stopped. After having two teeth fixed, the bleeding is back, together with milder pain. It's been bleeding since Thursday. I can't call the dentist until Monday. It's been a few years since I last had a filling, so I can't remember if this is normal.

Having some trouble finding an example of basic a soft start circuit. I want my circuit to gradually ramp up its power rails when it's switched on. It runs on 5V single supply and has audio jacks, and I don't want there to be a current surge and loud pop on the audio jacks when it's powered on. I want a ramp-up time of 1 second and the output of the ramping circuit needs to be as close to 5V as possible. I don't think it needs to drive more than about 100 mA.

Huh, I'm surprised that GPU acceleration isn't used more for SPICE simulation.

I think you could get computers running at significantly higher speeds if you dropped the need for synchrony.
