Among the Queen songs I hold the dearest, most of them were written by May, so there's my bias. 😁

Apart from "Mr. Bad Guy" I also have "Back to the Light" by May and "Happiness?" by Taylor and I've listened to them a lot. Of these, May's album is the one that sounds like a Queen album missing 75% of Queen.

May is not as good as Queen, they all needed each other to be at their best, but the production level on that album is Queen level, and I think that's a fairly unbiased opinion.

My suspicion is that both Mercury and Taylor had too much of a say on their albums and May might have been less of a strong-willed auteur and more of a musician working with a studio team when making his.

I don't know if I'm getting someone upset now, but I genuinely think 1993 is the better version, and I think that's not just due to more exposure.

"Mr. Bad Guy" just isn't a very good album, and "Living On My Own" is an example of that. Freddie's voice is of course perfect as always, but the editing and composition is not what you'd expect from an experienced team of composer, producer, studio technician etc. Not even close to what the Queen albums from nearby years sound like.

I don't have the background story, if you do, I'd love to hear it. Did Mercury try to do too much himself without having the experience? Did the studio listen to his input too much? Did he find a producer, did the label, did he produce it himself?

The original is more interesting and experimental, I'll give it that, I love the piano parts, but the overall edit is kind of meandering and unfocused.

The 1993 version has punch, it's a real pop hit. It's actually 25 seconds longer at 3:33, but it feels shorter because it doesn't leave you hanging around.

I was watching and listening to Freddie Mercury's "Living On My Own" and realized I didn't quite recognize it! I'm more familiar with the 1993 remix.

I call myself a Queen fan and I own a copy of "Mr. Bad Guy", so I must have listened to the original at least a few times in the 90s, but it seems I listened to the beep boop version more, as it was the one playing on the radio in the 90s, and I know I have at least one various-artists compilation album that includes it.

I haven't listened to either in years, maybe haven't heard the original this millennium. And I don't know if maybe I've heard the remix more recently, but for whatever reason it's the one that stuck.

Thank you to @trdebunked for mentioning The Leftist Cooks and their video on clinical narcissism.

The original video was taken down, it seems for reasons of production quality, but a more recent video from last year, on the larger topic of mental disorder in general, has a segment on Narcissism Personality Disorder and the unrelated Narcissistic trait from social psychology. The narcissism part starts 13:35 in.

I find the segment a bit unfocused, but if you stick with it I think it's helpful and interesting. It clarifies the definition, the problem with the common perception of the term and the problem with armchair diagnoses of celebrities. It's about 13 minutes long.

They return to discussing more about narcissism later in the video, but this is the core part establishing the issue.

I love how "When You Wish Upon A Star" is almost but not quite there in the theme of one character, always sparking familiarity and then just as it's about to become obvious it shifts and becomes its own thing.

And it's great that the film has a proper villain song.

I had forgotten that Tudyk would be in it. Took me a few minutes.

He is a good voice actor with great range of expression and character, it's not that he just sounds like himself, but he definitely has a style. =)

We watched #Wish. We didn't have high expectations except quality animation and quality music. It was not amazing but above expectation.

The story is very Disney, maybe more Disney than some recent films. A bit on the nose, but not annoyingly so. Reference fanservice was mostly relegated to late in the movie and didn't interfere with the story.

We enjoyed it. Definitely better than Wreck-It Ralph 2 or Frozen 2 from a story perspective.

A masterpiece centennial celebration, this is not. But nobody expected that.

I can't believe that at one point I felt like I might run out of things to watch. There's so much good stuff out there.

One series I have dropped is the psychological horror superhero thing #Legion . I really liked it to begin with, it was really twisted and dark but interesting and creative. By season 3 though it feels like it's really aiming for being really surreal and convoluted just to compete with itself.

Each episode is just introducing new puzzling things that may or may not be real and it's hard to see that anything will have a satisfying conclusion rather than another layer of misdirection. It's also hard to sympathize with any of the characters, as everyone's motives are hidden. I can no longer see oh this person is doing horrible thing X but that's because they're struggling with Y and I hope they can resolve it, it's just people being cold and hurting each other.

Because of time shenaningans some people are even in conflict with themselves and you can't tell what either side's true agenda is, they're just opposed.

#ForAllMankind is a show I've been watching and put on hold, not because I didn't enjoy it, but because some other series came out with new seasons and took precedence, and then discussions online made me go back and rewatch or finish some other series.

Now that #TheExpanse fans are getting really excited about where FAM is going lately, I'm bumping its priority and will probably return to it right after I catch up on #DoomPatrol .
