Look at this ridiculous little keyboard. Look at it!
($11 and yes of course I bought one.)

Spoiler-free (except for earlier movies) inspiration for previous spoiler thought comes from this Texts From Superheroes: https://78.media.tumblr.com/2d2cc7b8d865941da12312b10a92bf9e/tumblr_inline_p7svaxCWEG1rp2l9y_1280.png
Birdfeed has seized on this as "OMG TOMORROW!!!1!" overlooking the fact that it's just telling plainclothes officers that they need to have uniforms and such on hand. I mean, that's still kind of troubling, but it's not that Pittsburgh has received some kind of secret heads-up.
(Probably.)
The problem with "trusting the algorithm" is that the algorithm is modeled on what humans do.
In other exciting grocery news: drove past the construction site five minutes from my house and: the Aldi sign is on the building! Looks like they're getting ready to pave the parking lot. I haven't heard an opening date announced yet, though.
@erinbee Does. I'm afraid to open it, though. Might get carried away...
Local fancy grocery has snickerdoodle hummus. They didn't know whether to put it in the hummus section or with the rice pudding and stuff so they did both.
I did not buy it either place. (I did buy the chocolate halva tehine though, don't judge.)
NJ Wool Walk coming up this weekend. Making my plans, choosing a cardigan pattern. #fiber #yarn #woolwalk #yarncrawl #Jersey
@vilmibm Pennsyltucky!
We're close enough I should take my son and husband to visit my parents' hometowns, but they're both dying rural/mining towns so it would probably just be depressing.
Pretty scenery getting there, though. โฐ
Farewell, I have fallen down the rabbit hole of learning RDF.
Yeah, I'm only ten or fifteen years behind the curve.
@webmind @HerraBRE Yeah, I've only heard it secondhand and I'm not sure it's specifically gender-related toxicity.
And YAPC back then wasn't bad despite the ratio; I was there with my husband but never got a whiff of "oh you're just here with him" - in fact, I had people excitedly coming up to me, directly, to ask how I got the Powerbook on the wifi. (I had to disappoint them: it was running Linux.)
@HerraBRE I mocked PHP as a Perl coder, but I gotta admit, going to YAPC-NA 2017 was... interesting. One of the hotel maids asked me at the elevator, in broken English: "What is this? You are... only woman?" Uh, yeah, you're not kidding lady. ๐ฌ I think there were four or five of us, out of a couple hundred.
(And I am told the community has gotten downright toxic since then. I dunno, I only keep in touch with a few of the guys.)
Goodness. It's just nonstop PLOT TWIST! moments these days, innit?
Update: it's apparently a going concern, but the discussion sure isn't happening in their one-message-every-couple-years Google Group.
TFW you find a promising set of standards and go to the discussion blog and the most recent entry invites you to join their Google Wave for discussion. ๐ฌ
@sconlan We moved from a 1000sf house 100 years old to a 2000sf house 50 years old. It seemed like nice symmetry.
@jackyalcine Whatever instinct keeps wolves from not dying in hailstorms, we accidentally bred it out of dogs.
My parents' house was once hit by softball-sized hail, and I regret that it was before the age of cellphones so Mom did not get video of Dad chasing their stupid little mop dog around the backyard while she barked excitedly because this was a fun game.
"... warblers."
