the list of misidentified chemical element names on wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_misidentified_chemical_elements is extremely evocative and all of them seem like they could be plausible fictional unobtaniums; they also look like they could have been generated with a recurrent neural network ("alkalinium", "berzelium", "decipium", "ptene", "wasium")
@funbreaker@Jo Heh, you're fine. Seeing someone say "snowflake" *does* normally make my mind go down the path Jo mentioned, but apparently not when I'm faced with the prospect of quite so *many* literal ones...
@funbreaker@Jo I do (sadly, the existence of edgelords is hard to get away from regardless of your age), I just am not sure exactly how to read my post edgelordily (possibly because I know what I meant and can't unsee that).
All the real meteorologists have evacuated after forecasting 18" of snow and the interns are reduced to asking Twitter what is going to happen in this storm.
I burned a new SD image, lit the Pi up headless, generated a new password in LastPass, pasted it in, rebooted the Pi to adjust its storage and... couldn't log back in. Not sure what I pasted, but evidently it wasn't what LastPass had generated. π‘
(Pull the SD card, edit /etc/shadow, reboot, do a "*hacker voice* I'M IN")
Also, this is my old Pi 1 Model B, not a shiny new 3B+. Yet.
The only ethernet cable I could find was the 100' one, so the Pi was in a cable nest behind my monitor until #RamsesTheCat got annoyed with me over it being in the cardboard flat that he sleeps in, so now it's all draped over the speaker and he's still kinda annoyed about it.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH I was standing by the bay window and the fluffiest little Carolina Wren just landed in the shrub a couple feet outside.
It inspected me and looked alllll over the breakfast nook and decided not to try to fly into the window glass no matter how warm it looks in here, so that was good. Find a warm place to roost before the rest of the ice and snow comes in, little bird.
@cwebber My poor antique dachshund was the same way... all he wanted to do in the last couple years of his life was sleep, but he also didn't want to be more than a few feet away from me.
@puppy I think you'd be surprised how much the two services have converged, in their basic timeline usage. Enough, I think, to make FB refugees feel at home.
Happy first day of spring! (This will change to freezing rain this afternoon so we have ice to go under the 8-12" of snow we're supposed to get tomorrow. Whee!)
There is currently a report of a guy with a gun in a restaurant opposite Princeton U; in Kansas that's just a normal Tuesday right up until the point where he draws it on somebody.
