It's a handy thing to have around when you're playing with weird PCs and want to network them - it only needs a parallel port, and it doesn't even have to support PS/2 bidirectional mode, making it useful for weird machines with no expansion (like my PS/1), laptops from before PCMCIA (or with weird and broken PCMCIA), and things like the PCjr where the expansion is rather weird.
