I'm going to do so much stuff once I have the space to do it!

Ian Brown (hummingrain@wandering.shop)'s status on Thursday, 19-Dec-2019 21:40:39 EST Ian Brown Extremely niche electronic item I wish existed: media player in the form factor of an iPod nano, SD card storage, supports .flac, can play videos, and uses a transreflective LCD with front lighting so I can use it sans backlight, and if I do need a light it's not being projected directly into my eyes.
I would go for an e-ink display were I never including videos.
Oh, and some sort of podcast management integration to track episodes listened.

Adrian Cochrane (alcinnz@floss.social)'s status on Thursday, 19-Dec-2019 20:06:15 EST Adrian Cochrane I should say:
1. I have added to that list of links just today! To include Expedition Sasquatch, Destination Nerva specifically for a Doctor Who audio adventure, & Welcome to Night Vale.
2. If you have/are making something you want me to consider adding to that list, please contact me! -
Adrian Cochrane (alcinnz@floss.social)'s status on Thursday, 19-Dec-2019 17:57:37 EST Adrian Cochrane Other the last week I've pretty much listed all the recommendations I have for now, but I'm still looking for more. I have a list and I'll continue posting recommendations as I find them, both here and to https://adrian.geek.nz/movies.html
I'm focusing on DRM-free fictional movies & (audio) shows because I find them the hardest to locate. And because I enjoy those mediums!

SDF.ORG (sdf@mastodon.sdf.org)'s status on Thursday, 19-Dec-2019 16:09:49 EST SDF.ORG A #mastodon exclusive! You are invited to play on a *REAL* PDP-8/e running the TSS/8 monitor (TimeSharing System 8) pictured here. There is a user contributed tutorial here:
https://wiki.livingcomputers.org/doku.php?id=tss_8
To connect, ssh tss8@tty.livingcomputers.org
If you are unable to connect that means all 6 (yes, just 6) lines are in use. Remember, this is real hardware and there is NO EMULATION happening. It is the real deal! Enjoy!

Doc Edward Morbius ⭕ (dredmorbius@mastodon.cloud)'s status on Thursday, 19-Dec-2019 16:12:36 EST Doc Edward Morbius ⭕ @ajroach42 NYPL are likely to be the best specific source for you to contact regarding whether or not any such database exists, and/or if there's any work toward creating one.
Sean Raymond specifically seems to be the lead person, see:
https://www.nypl.org/blog/2019/05/31/us-copyright-history-1923-1964I don't have contact information for him, though you're welcome to dig for that.

Andrew (R.S Admin) (ajroach42@retro.social)'s status on Thursday, 19-Dec-2019 00:12:15 EST Andrew (R.S Admin) Looks like you can download torrents over i2p?
That's neat, since tor specifically asks you not to use tor for torrenting.
Maybe I have a project on the horizon after all.

Andrew (R.S Admin) (ajroach42@retro.social)'s status on Wednesday, 18-Dec-2019 23:45:44 EST Andrew (R.S Admin) I think I'm going to stick some Tor hidden services on it, and experiment with publishing articles via tor. I'll assume enough people have tor browser to make this worthwhile.

Andrew (R.S Admin) (ajroach42@retro.social)'s status on Wednesday, 18-Dec-2019 22:16:22 EST Andrew (R.S Admin) Hi! Anyone know of a good searchable database of movie copyright renewals?
I'm trying to figure out if a handful of film serials are safe for me to distribute.
Thanks!

Andrew (R.S Admin) (ajroach42@retro.social)'s status on Thursday, 19-Dec-2019 15:54:01 EST Andrew (R.S Admin) I did it. I have the spreadsheet. I marked which ones were in the public domain (I just did a quick pass, it's not exhaustive) and came up with 39.
I'm pretty sure I missed a couple, but I'll plan to do reviews of each of these at least.

Andrew (R.S Admin) (ajroach42@retro.social)'s status on Thursday, 19-Dec-2019 15:52:46 EST Andrew (R.S Admin) I couldn't ... Who am I kidding.
I chose not to go to sleep on time last night, and instead watched the 1931 horror film Vampyr.
I just wrote a review, and shared the film, with subtitles (unlike the version on Archive.org which does not include subtitles.)
