@kurisu Do people build web applications in Rust? I'd think that even the Rust fans would admit that's not where that language would shine?

Clojure is very different from regular Lisp. That's not to say that Clojure can't be a useful language in its own right of course, but ABCL is a full Common Lisp that compiles to Java bytecode.

This looks pretty cool. I definitely want to look into that.

Well, I don't trust any software. It's just that I trust closed source software even less. Also, I don't trust myself from making mistakes either, so isolation is good against mistakes too.

Do you happen to know if Guix isolates applications like flatpak does? I feel really uncomfortable running arbitrary software on my machine, and even more so if the software is closed source -

How does BSD solve the problem of initial entropy? That's the root cause of the current Linux issues, isn't it -

I'll do that next time. After all, I wrote an Emacs client for it. It's just sad that they insist on only deliver an Electron version. -
Elias Mårtenson (loke@functional.cafe)'s status on Wednesday, 02-Oct-2019 13:06:09 EDT Elias Mårtenson @dekkzz78 I haven't checked how much CPU the non-electron parts takes, and you're probably right that it's much less.
That said, if I start the GUI and then close the window, the Electron processes won't stop, and they will sit there, using CPU.

Elias Mårtenson (loke@functional.cafe)'s status on Wednesday, 02-Oct-2019 12:58:02 EDT Elias Mårtenson I kind of like Keybase, but seriously, something needs to be done about Electron. Requiring that for the client is terrible. If I just start it on my laptop, power consumption goes up significantly (by several watts). That's not acceptable.
Because of this, I only start Keybase on my laptop when I need it, and then explicitly kill it afterwards.
If should be completely unacceptable to deliver applications that are built on Electron with no proper alternatives.

I don't think you'd see this sign in Europe, for that exact reason. -

I'm not a fan of Discovery. I'm hoping that Picard will be good.
