life hack:
you can just say "websearch" instead of "google"
there is more than one search engine
don't internalize the brands' language
why does #ArsTechnica think that I want them overriding scrolling behaviour with JS?
hey #web peeps
protip
don't ever do this
let me rephrase my rant
No Application Should Be Allowed To Pop Under The Mouse And Steal A Click Nor Should They Be Able To Steal Focus When They Appear
#GUI DEVS, YOU HEAR ME????
no Greek legends pls, specifically looking for stuff we don't learn about in the Hungarian education system, like Native American myths and legends
not to sound like a professional quote maker but the most important interpersonal skill is probably the ability to admit one's mistakes and i don't think we teach that enough
hmmm. do file systems and/or SSD controllers and/or the file system cache layer recognize when you write the same data to the same location?
eg. if I ran `while true; do cat /proc/cpuinfo > ~/foo; done`, would that wear an SSD out?
btw i didn't mean this to be a subtoot of anyone specific or to condemn anyone. i hope that was implicit....
@lyliawisteria imho equating "nation states" and "countries" is a bad idea
and large states falling apart isn't usually followed by peace.
whereas if you message is that you love the people around you and you have a better alternative for your country's future, they might just listen to you and bring around change without (much) violence.
i get that people in the US hate their country, but i doubt that it falling apart would be beneficial to them or to others. if you're gonna wish for something, wish for it to become better, not for it to fail.
imho one can be critical of nationalism without hating their country.
gonna watch the Adventure Time finale
they're smart but they need to get some programming practice outside of uni projects
also our OOP classes are the typical OOP class where we are told it's the ultimate in programming, so most of my friends don't even realize there are alternatives
human universals:
wanting to be a cat
any organization as large as #Mozilla is bound to be political, arguing otherwise is just a pointless attempt to dismiss the responsibility that comes with that
also i like computers
u do computers
pls hire????
lootboxes for Mastodon but they all contain headpats and are also free and there's an unlimited supply of them
eg. Guile abbreviates everything, which makes its error messages super confusing. they already were confusing, but this doesn't help.
here is a #UI lesson: if you wanna make something user friendly, you can't just apply every vaguely appealing "improvement", you gotta actually think about what information you wanna show or hide, and how.
anyways, #Guix is nice, but having to deal with environment variables is still kind of a pain in the ass
which is why I still maintain that the #Plan9 file system model would be a better base to build upon
shoutout to audio peeps who prevent things like this: https://youtu.be/xSjk2PdQm5k?t=6310
using a (kind of) source based distribution (eg. Guix or 9front) really makes you appreciate simple software and fast compilers
did you know that chromium takes frickin forever to build? i just gave up because i ain't got no patience for that.
right now i'm waiting for Krita to build but that too is taking its sweet time.... but at least I like Krita
